Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge Hosts SKUSA Pro Tour Warm-up Event in Utah
Article by: Superkarts! USA

Coming off a great 2012 opening event in Grand Junction, Colorado, Superkarts! USA is busy preparing for what should be the largest Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge event of the season. On June 1-3, the series will host round three and four at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. The event will be tabbed as the SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals warm-up event, with the weekend scheduled as the last competition contested on the same circuit that will be utilized on July 20-22. Those coming in from outside the region will have a solid group of drivers to contend with for the victories.

“We’ve been busy the past week preparing for the second stop of the Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge. There have been a lot of competitors signing up for this event that are looking to prepare for the Pro Tour event,” commented SKUSA National Operations Director Stan Bryniarski. “This will be the second season that the Rocky Mountain region has hosted the Pro Tour SummerNationals. Our hope is to provide the best weekend possible for everyone attending for our regional race and when we return in July.”

The Miller Motorsports Park houses a 9/10-mile karting circuit on its 511-acres. The facility has hosted a number of national karting events since opening in 2006, and is the home of the Utah Kart Championship (UKC) series. The Rocky Mountain PKC event will be the first Superkarts! USA regional event to be held on the facility, with the SummerNationals on July 20-22 the first stop ever for the Pro Tour series. The challenging kart circuit will be the perfect backdrop to continue the championship chases in the Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge.

The S1 Pro Stock Moto division has a host of Utah drivers at the top of the order after the opening weekend. Mike Beeny scored the feature wins in Colorado and leads the championship chase over defending S4 SuperNationals winner Bonnier Moulton and Tyler Bennett. The battle in S2 Semi-Pro category has Christian Bird and current Pro Tour point leader Sabré Cook at the top. Each won a feature at the opening weekend, with Bird holding the point lead. Alex Yates scored a perfect weekend in the S3 Novice class, and will look to extend that streak heading to his home track in Utah. Chris Neria and Lauren Stark head up the challengers looking to cut into his point lead. Jet Davis was another driver earning maximum points on the weekend, sweeping in S4 Master. David Conyers and Scott Allen enter Utah second and third in the standings. In S5 Junior, sponsored by Miller Motorsports Park, Mianna Wick made her debut in Colorado with two victories. Ryan Rudolph challenged, but had mechanical issues in both feature races. Brandon Southwick and Bob Rodrick ran uncontested in the TaG Senior and TaG Master groups, but are expected to see a number of drivers from outside the region competing in Utah. The chase in the Billet Performance Karting TaG Junior class sees rookie Austin Versteeg leading by just 30 points over Jason Dempster. Each earned a feature win, and will continue their battle at Versteeg’s home track. Grand Junction driver Riley Cook leads in the Miller Motorsports Park-sponsored TaG Cadet division. Cook won Sunday’s feature race, but second place driver Derek Deslauriers won Saturday to sit just 35 points out of the lead.

Due to the holiday weekend, pre-registration for this event will remain open until midnight on Tuesday, May 29, at the http://www.superkartsusa.com/rmmw-store website. Should racers miss the pre-entry deadline, they will be able to enter during at-track registration that opens up Friday, June 1.
