| Texas ProKart Challenge Returns to Action at Grandsport Speedway June 1-3 |
| |
The new Texas ProKart Challenge (TPKC) presented by 3G Kart Racing/Burger King™/Fernelius Alvarez Attorneys will return to action on June 1-3 as the series travels to the Grandsport Speedway, south of downtown Houston, Texas. The series is coming off a successful opening two rounds at the Gulf Coast Kartways in Katy, Texas with a good mixture of Superkarts! USA and United States Rotax Max Challenge competitors on hand. The same is expected when the gates open up next weekend in Hitchcock, Texas.
The 1.3-mile permanent Grandsport Speedway course was completed in 2007. The facility hosts a number of car and motorcycle clubs from the region. Next weekend will be the first competition karting event for the facility. While the length may be longer than typical sprint tracks in the country, the ‘Mako Circuit’ will provide a great challenge for all categories competing on June 1-3. The weekend will also be an excellent opportunity for the popular road racing community in the Lone Star state to experience the brand of racing that Texas ProKart Challenge offers.
Series championships for the Texas ProKart Challenge bring a number of prizes and trips, and the battles will heat up with rounds three and four contested next weekend. Jake French was unchallenged in the Rollo Insurance S1 Pro Stock Moto category. He set the pace for the shifterkart group at Katy and will look to do the same at Grandsport. Connor Wagner currently leads the Miller & Brown LLP S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto division. The only driver to stand on the podium both days at the opener has him leading veterans Jordon Musser and Ryan Kinnear. The battle is close after two rounds in the TaG Senior class, sponsored by CT Customs. Gill Lipton won both feature races but has Cody Freeman just 35 points behind. Former SKUSA SuperNationals winner Chris Jennings has a solid lead in the S4 Master category, sponsored by LCG Discovery Experts, following his two feature wins in Katy. James Garvin and Steve McCaffrey lead the charge heading to Grandsport. Patricio O’Ward made his S5 Junior Stock Moto debut with two feature wins. He leads the Turbo Lube Motul-sponsored championship over Andretta Young and Jacob Loomis. Robby Mott was another double winner at the opening weekend as he swept the Gulf Coast Karters TaG Master division. Paul Jones and Patrick Roth lead the charge against him. Andres Rodriguez is on top in the Margison Graphics S3 Novice Stock Moto title chase over Matt Stephenson while Max Waithman is ahead in the Iron Rock Motorsports TaG Cadet division over Parker Chase and Max Hewitt.

In the US Rotax Max Challenge categories, a solid number of drivers contested the opening rounds, all earning punches toward the Rotax Grand Nationals and Pan American Challenge events later this year. CJ Cramm was nearly perfect at the opening weekend in Senior Max, sponsored by Crown Financial. He leads the standings over Sheridan Odom. David Pergande was perfect in North Texas Karters Masters Max, scoring maximum points over Steve Clark. DJ Ortiz ran uncontested in the DD2 Masters class, also sponsored by North Texas Karters. In the J&T Racing Junior Max category, Michael Ilavia has a 50 point advantage over Jesse Woodyard with former Rotax Grand Nationals champ Patricio O’Ward in third. The Aquajet Mini Max division is led by Max Hewitt and David Ilavia, both earning victories at the opening weekend. Hewitt leads the standings by 38 points with Ilavia in second and Ryan C. Lewis in third. Max Waithman is on top of another category, the Rollo Insurance Micro Max class. He leads Landen Wilkins by just 15 markers as Brandon Solis sits third.
Pre-registration ends Sunday, May 27, thus leaving just a few more hours to enter for next weekend’s Texas ProKart Challenge event at Grandsport Speedway. TPKC would like to remind competitors that pre-orders for tires, fuel and oil will also close on May 27, with a limited amount available at the track, so be sure to send in your information as soon as possible. Officials would like to remind competitors to be ready for the high-speed course and that every driver reviews their pre tech sheets for SKUSA and Rotax very carefully. Be sure to visit http://www.texasprokartchallenge.com or http://www.superkartsusa.com/regional/texas-pkc.html for more information on the TPKC and also add them to your Facebook pages by searching texaspkc. |
