Team News: Leading Edge Motorsports Wins in Two Different Locations on the Weekend

The May 18-20 weekend was a busy few days for the Leading Edge Motorsports as it was spread out across the state of California. Four drivers represented the NorCal operation at the California ProKart Challenge event at Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside. Two drivers flew LEM colors at the third stop of the WKA West Super Series at Allstar Karting in Prairie City. Each event brought another victory to the Leading Edge Motorsports resume as Trevor McAlister earned his first in the S4 Master Stock Moto class while Shelby Sander dominated PRD Spec in WKA competition.

McAlister has been fast throughout the 2012 season thus far, with no victories to show for it. The Adams event could be the turning point for Trevor’s season. The event began with ‘T-Mac’ qualifying on the pole position with a 41.922-lap. His lap was the quickest of all the categories at the event, showing the potential of the Praga chassis under the tutelage of Greg Bell. McAlister drove to the win in the opening heat race, unfortunately officials ruled contact with another driver when he missed a shift was a deliberant hit, penalizing Trevor to the back of the field. With the mission at hand, McAlister was up to the challenge in heat two as he advanced up to the eighth position in just 10 laps, recording the fast lap of the race. With 16 laps up next in the main event, McAlister completed his work quickly. Gaining two spots in the opening circuit, he picked up another each lap until returning to the lead by lap seven. From there, he laid down the quick laps of the race to pull out to a two-second advantage for the victory.

Up north in Prairie City, Shelby Sander swept the action in the PRD Spec category. Recording a 44.103-second lap time, Sander secured the pole position in qualifying. Despite getting challenged in heat one, Sander scored the win. Going wire-to-wire in heat two, Sander matched that same performance by leading all 15 laps of the main event to secure the victory aboard a LEM Intrepid entry. Fellow Leading Edge Motorsports driver Matt Chase made it a 1-2 finish for the team. Matt was second for much of the day, crossing the line two-seconds behind Sander to fill up the top two steps of the podium.

TaG Master driver Randy Froom nearly earned Leading Edge Motorsports its third victory of the weekend. The SKUSA Pro Tour championship contender showed the way throughout the day at Adams until a mechanical issue put him on the sidelines just short of the event sweep. Froom was quickest in qualifying as he piloted his Leading Edge Motorsports Intrepid to a 44.099-lap to secure the pole position. Froom held off challenges in the opening heat race to earn the win by a photo finish, following that up with a flag-to-flag win in heat two. Battling for the win with a former two-time SKUSA SuperNationals winner, Froom held his ground until a stuck throttle ended his race early.

Representing Leading Edge Motorsports in TaG Senior was NorCal driver AJ Juergens. Competing against a very tough field, Juergens showed well aboard his LEM Intrepid entry. AJ qualified 11th, but lost two positions in heat one. Involved in a wreck in heat two, he came back to finish the day in 12th for the main event. TaG Cadet LEM driver Jack von Quilich visited the Adams facility for the first time, recording a fourth place finish. JVQ showed speed throughout the day and improved his pace each session out.

The Leading Edge Motorsports operation will next travel on June 22-23 for the fourth round of the California ProKart Challenge, returning to the Buttonwillow Raceway kart track in Buttonwillow. The event will be the final tune-up for the SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals set for July 20-22 at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. A full roster of LEM drivers are expected to compete.
