| Series News: Red Line Oil Karting Championship Preps for Memorial Day Weekend Race |
| |
Race #3 of the Red Line Oil Karting Championship will run this coming Sunday with a 'Clean Sweep' feature being added to the fun. The race configuration will be the Reverse National track of the Simraceway kart track. The 'Clean Sweep' will be a free race credit given to any driver in a class of 5 or more karts who wins the pole, both heats and the Main. At the end of the day, all the 'Clean Sweep' winners will go into a draw for a $500 prize. Also for this race, the GoPro feature race will be the TaG race with the winner of the IAME TaG class taking home the GoPro Hero Camera.
The 2012 season of the RLOKC has opened up with strong entries this year and also with strong competition in all the major classes. After the first two races, there has not been a double winner yet in any of the larger classes. In Senior Rotax, Reno's David Harwin and Carlos Calderon split the first two race wins with Harwin holding a small point's lead in the championship. But with a strong run from Brody Zink in the last race, expect some pressure to be applied to the two front runners. Junior Rotax has shown to be full of competitive racers. Alex Keyes and Zack Dante have split the first two races, but there have been several drivers that have run close behind. Will Preston, Mikey Michoff and Annie and Toni Breidinger have all run strong and are ready to take control of the front of the field. In the Pro Stock Honda class Brett Buckwalter and Daniel Langon split the first two races with Jason Toft looking to close the gap and challenge for a win. With over 15 entries at the last race, the Rotax Masters class has taken the lead in the largest class category with last race winner Andrea Delfanti, Scott Ripslinger and Greg Hoff showing where the speed is in the class. 80 Masters has a 3 driver duel at the top, spec IAME TaG is pulling in more drivers this year, Junior TaG has four competitive drivers in it and our Micro-Max class is picking up with some new-to karting drivers.
Practice and Pre-Registration will begin will be available from 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday (note NEW time). Practice is $50 for the day and all karts are welcome to run practice as long as the drivers are veteran drivers and driving karts that meet current safety standards. All registration will be at the Old Jim Russell Admin building (to the right of the Infineon Main Gate, behind the large wall). Registration will open for Saturday at 8:00am and at 7:00am for Sunday. Sunday Raceday starts practice at 8:10 with racing beginning about 11:00. Race Entry fee is $100, $10 for transponder rental, $10 for each additional pit pass, $5 for kids under 12. Rotax membership is required for all National Rotax classes, cost is $45 and can be done at Registration. A one race waiver of Rotax membership is given to all first time racers to the Rotax classes. For more information on the Red Line Oil Karting Championships go to RLOKC or contact race director Ric Shaw at race director .
Driver's notes:
Stolen Kart - Bob Olson's DD2 kart was stolen from his garage after the last race. It is a Birel with engine serial number 8344915 (which is easily seen when looking down at the engine). Not too many people have DD2 karts, so if you see one in the hands of someone you do not know, take a look. You can contact Bob at 408-354-8669. Word to the wise, you may want to chain up your karts to something like a work bench to make taking a kart more difficult.
New Saturday Practice Time - Practice on Saturday will be from 10:00 to 5:00 for the next race and for all future races. Also, expect to see 15 minute sessions for each practice group this coming race. Longer sessions have been requested so people can make minor adjustments and then go out and try it out without waiting for the next session. This will also make for more time between sessions so people have the time to make more extensive changes.
W9 Forms - We will have W9 forms available at registration. To be eligible to receive the prize money at the RLOKC events we will require these forms to be completed due to IRS regulations.
Birth Certificates for Rotax Required - A birth certificate for all minor age drivers must be on file with Rotax. If you are a new driver to Rotax this year and you are a minor, then a copy of a certificate must be sent to Josh Smith at Rotax. This only has to be done once, not every year. Ric Shaw will get the list of drivers missing birth certificates and will post them next race.
Still some drivers are not Rotax Members - There are still about 15 drivers in Rotax classes that are not rotax members yet Ric will be talking to you about this at Registration at the upcoming race to get all these drivers signed up. Drivers must be Rotax members in all the National Rotax classes to run the series.
Radiator Tape on Rotax classes - Just a reminder to all Rotax racers, Tape that is used on the radiator must be one continuous piece of tape around the radiator. This must be one continuous piece at the scales, not just on the pre-grid. Expect to see this monitored often at future races.
