Canadian Jesse Lazare piloted his Formula K/Chapman Racing Services mount to a solid 14th place in the second round of the Rotax Euro Challenge last weekend.
“This has been a tough weekend,” Lazare said of the finish. “The competition is so deep here that making up any positions is difficult – we are all fighting for every inch.”
Lazare had reason to be optimistic at Wackersdorf after putting in a solid qualifying effort that left him 11th on the grid, just 2/10ths off pole.
“We got faster as the track took rubber after practice,” Lazare said. In the heats an accident in the final heat cost Lazare a shot at a top 10 starting position. He started the prefinal in 25th and made his way to 19th, then in the final, he was up to 8th before contact sent him back to 20th.
Ultimately Lazare ended up 14th, and now sits 14th in the championship.
“Learning the front brakes has been the toughest thing,” Lazare said. “But, I am happy with our pace and Steve [Champman] has the Formula K kart working good, so I am optimistic moving forward.”
Lazare now gets ready to contest the ECKC opener at Goodwood this weekend.
