Northwest ProKart Challenge Kicks Off This Weekend at Pat’s Acres Racing Complex
Article by: nwprokartchallenge.com

A new era begins this weekend as the revamped Northwest ProKart Challenge (NWPKC) kicks off its 2012 season. The popular Pat’s Acres Racing Complex in Canby, Oregon will host rounds one and two of the six-event series. Formerly known as the I-5 Corridor Series, the program is now an official Superkarts! USA regional series in addition to continuing its relationship with the United States Rotax Max Challenge. The series boasts a focused class structure with emphasis on plenty of track time, and Northwest ProKart Challenge organizers are striving to offer nothing but the best for karters in the area.

“It’s an exciting time here and I can’t wait for the 2012 Northwest ProKart Challenge to begin,” stated series director Chris Egger. “Our facility has a long and joyful history with the Superkarts! USA organization and we are happy to reunite once again. It’s great that we are able to combine that with our popular Rotax Max Challenge program that we have offered. It’s the best of both worlds, in my opinion. We have shown for many years now the talent here in the Pacific Northwest has to offer the sport of karting and I’m sure that the series will help to groom the current and future stars.”

The Pacific Northwest area is no stranger to the Superkarts! USA organization. A strong regional program once called the area its home, hosting a number of national events during the early years of the organization. Now part of the ProKart Challenge regional program under the SKUSA banner, once the series crowns its champions in the sanctioned categories, they will earn a guaranteed starting position in the SuperSunday main event at the SKUSA SuperNationals, regardless of their heat race or LCQ performances. The NWPKC six-race series is also recognized as a United States Rotax Max Challenge series, as racers in those categories will be able to earn an official ‘punch’ for each race toward their qualification to compete at the Rotax Grand Nationals in August and the Pan American Challenge in September. The Superkarts! USA classes available each weekend for the Northwest ProKart Challenge will include S1 Pro Stock Moto, S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto, S4 Master Stock Moto and S5 Junior Stock Moto. Rotax categories consist of Senior Max, Master Max, Junior Max, Mini Max, and Micro Max.

“Our focused class structure allows us the ability to offer the maximum amount of track time for our racers,” continued Egger. “The Stock Moto and Rotax divisions are the most popular categories in the area, and with a condensed class structure, we can focus on giving our racers the track time they deserve, in addition to a professionally operated event. We will have veteran official Tim Musch serve as our Race Director, along with an experienced staff to oversee other duties of the events. Racers can come to the Northwest ProKart Challenge knowing that they will get the best deal for their money, race against the best in the area, and know they will be treated with the respect they deserve.”

A number of talented drivers are scheduled to be in Canby this weekend. For Stock Moto, new SKUSA Pro Tour winner Joey Wimsett will lead the favorites in the S1 category and he’ll be chased by local hotshoe Cameron Egger. A solid crop of young drivers will be gunning for victory in S2, including Parker McKean, Dalton Egger, Sean Nasland and Neal Kandarian. S4 will see defending regional champion Bruce McKean up against Russell Francis, among others. A number of drivers will be in the hunt for the Rotax divisions as well. Senior will include Geoffrey Roberti, Junior will see Luke Selliken and Jake Preston, while Mini Max and Micro Max to host a number of pilots from the area.

The event begins on Friday, May 18 with a full day of practice beginning at 11:00 am and going until 6:00 pm sharp. Saturday and Sunday will each host a separate round of racing to count toward the six-race championship series. Both days will consist of warm-up, qualifying, Pre-final and Final. All Stock Moto categories will follow Superkarts! USA rules, utilizing MG ‘SKUSA’ tires with VP MS 98 fuel and Motul oil. All Rotax divisions will run following the guidelines set by the USRMC, including Mojo tires, PARC 93 fuel and Rotax XPS oil.

Following the opening weekend of the Northwest ProKart Challenge, the series will continue on visiting the Jackson County Sport Park kart track in Medford, Oregon - home of the Southern Oregon Karters - on July 6-8. The series will then come to a close with the final two rounds returning to the Pat’s Acres Racing Complex on August 24-26.
