Switzer, Thompson, and Ousley Lock into Chapel Hill Grand National with Super Regional Wins at King George
Article by: WKA PitBoard

The first wave of guaranteed starters in the August 10-12 Speedway Pavement Grand Nationals at Chapel Hill Raceway in New York are set with this past weekend's first Super Regional run at King George Speedway in Virginia.

With winners in the nationally recognized WKA classes gaining starting berths by virtue of their wins in the Super Regionals, national competitor Zach Switzer, along with many others, locked themselves into their respective fields.

Switzer took top honors in the Senior Champ class on Saturday at King George. Other winners included Trey Thompson in Junior Champ, while Austin Ousley scored the top honors over D.J. Powell Jr in Junior Stock.

Shelby Sanders was the big winner in Rookie Champ while Denver Brandts edged out Trevor Trost in Stock Medium. Dale Portner was the top dog in Stock Heavy, besting Trost, while Anthony Gardiner stole the show in the Sportsman 1 Class.

Each winner will now have a chance to earn a WKA Pavement National title if they can convert their guaranteed starting spot into a victory at Chapel Hill. However, despite the runnerup finishes by many at King George, including national competitor Trevor Trost, he, along with all others can still go to Chapel Hill, qualify in their respective classes and win the title just as easily.

For those still looking to gain a guaranteed starting spot in the Chapel Hill field, the next Super Regional will be held June 3 at Riverhead Raceway in New York. For the King George competitors still looking for that shot, Sandy Hook Speedway in Maryland will be hosting their Super Regional June 17 in Street, Maryland.

The next divisional for King George will be August 18 while Oakland Valley Raceway Park in Cuddebackville, New York will host their second divisional this weekend.
