Heading into the third round of this year's Right Karts KartStars Rotax Max Challenge in Hamilton over the weekend it looked like round two winner Daniel Connor was defending Right Karts 125cc Rotax Light class title holder - and round one winner - Daniel Kinsman's biggest threat.

But on Sunday Kinsman and Connor found themselves playing second fiddle to someone else altogether; Kinsman's older brother Mathew.

Having taken time out from his karting career a couple of years ago Mathew has been in comeback mode for the past 18 months. That all changed on Sunday however when he beat brother Daniel and top Palmerston North karter Fraser Hart to the top spot in qualifying before winning both Light class heats then both the Pre-Final and Final on Sunday, the latter from former class runner-up Kane Taylor with Daniel Connor third and Daniel Kinsman fourth.

There was also an upset in Arai Helmets Formula Junior with Palmerston North driver Josh Drysdale beating quickest qualifier and heat and Pre-Final winner Scott Manson to the chequered flag in a no-holds-barred Final.

Early on the battle for the lead was between the drivers who had finished first and second respectively in the Pre-Final, Manson and Aucklander CJ Sinclair.

All-up, in fact, Manson led 13 of the 24 laps. Drysdale, however, led two, the 17th and the last.

Sinclair also showed winning pace in the Final, leading for eight laps, only to come off second best after contact on the penultimate lap, eventually crossing the finish line back in a what-might-have-been eighth place.

Normal service, meanwhile resumed in the Strata Networks 125cc Rotax Max Heavy class with early season standout Zac Zaloum qualifying quickest and winning all four races, the Pre-Final from Andrew Grant and Niki Urwin, the Final from Urwin, Grant and Stuart Marshall.

The weekend's round of the 2012 Right Karts Kart Stars Rotax Max Challenge series was the third of six with the next to be hosted by the KartSport Bay of Plenty club at its Fagan's Valley Raceway at the end of July.
