Team News: Andersen Racing - Florida Karting Championship Series Palmetto Report

After a long and successful winter season, the recently reorganised Andersen Racing squad tackled the fourth round of the Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS). The race took place at the team’s headquarters, Andersen Racepark, in Palmetto, Fl. The event was, without question, a spectacle in the simplest terms, as the circuit was constantly changing from wet to dry racing conditions. With the rain coming and going on 5 separate occasions, all of the teams were kept on their toes. It was apparent that only the most prepared and organised squad would emerge with the victory. On more than one occasion this squad was Andersen Racing.

Andersen Racing started the weekend by claiming the pole position in MicroMax. Florida pilot, Ian keel, took the pole position in dominant fashion highlighting the versatility of his Birel C-28 chassis. Close behind in qualifying was his sibling Aidan Keel, claiming the third position. The two brothers would start first and third for the race. Unopposed, they worked together towards a 1-2 finish, Ian ultimately being victorious. The Keels demonstrated the competitiveness of the Birel C-28 model, as well as its adaptability when circuit conditions were not constant.

In Rotax Senior Max, British pilot Julian Palk (19) steadily improved to conclude the day with a sixth place finish. Wrapping up the action for Saturday, Palk was happy to have done his best and must now turn his focus back to his training programme.

On Sunday, Andersen Racing pilot Antoni Ptak (15) put on a show in the Rotax Max Junior category. Having just returned from the Rotax Euro Challenge in Genk, Belgium, Antoni was eager to show the new skills he acquired abroad. Qualifying took place in wet conditions, but the young pilot from Poland had unshaken confidence in his training. He took the third position, for an inside row starting position. In the final, Ptak demonstrated the effectiveness of the Andersen Racing training regime, making his bid for the victory on the first lap. By the time he completed the second lap, he had secured the lead and for the remainder of the race he never looked back. Aboard his Birel RY-30 S4 chassis, Ptak went on to win the race by over two seconds, waving his fist victoriously when greeted by the chequered flag.

After passing technical inspection, Antoni stated : “I started training with Andersen Racing in November, and I made my racing debut this last January. I would have never thought it possible to be victorious so early in my racing career. I really have to thank my team and everyone at Andersen Racepark for making my first victory possible.”

Andersen Racing is currently rebuilding its programs with a renewed interest in karting competition. The Palmetto-based squad will continue to support the Birel/Freeline product line with a refocused goal. The team will look to support local racing and upcoming drivers, with training programs and complete, comprehensive product support. Eddie Kish, Andersen Racing’s VP of karting, was very satisfied with the results.

“This weekend, I think that we proved that our training program is coming along quite quickly. In only 4 months we have given Antoni the tools needed to be a threat for the victory. Our chassis’ were unfaltering and quick in every condition with only a standard set-up. Antoni did a wonderful job, and I congratulate the Keel twins on their impressive testament in MicroMax.” And when asked about how Andersen Racing is able to perform, Kish continued, “Our team functions as an aggregate of equally important entities. We have to thank our partners Supertune engines, Unipro Laptimers, and Birel Motorsport. Most importantly, I have to thank the crew who operate Andersen Racepark who allow us to train our drivers and ensure that our competitiveness is ever increasing. The rental karts at Andersen Racepark have been an important key to giving our drivers racecraft, allowing them to learn in one day what many others take years to experience.”

The team is headquartered at Andersen RacePark. Andersen RacePark is located just 15 minutes south of St. Petersburg and 15 minutes north of Sarasota in Palmetto, Fla. Encompassing 18 beautifully landscaped acres, the facility includes a 1-mile test track, a lake, 22 garages on pit lane, a full-service karting store and Andersen Racing's immaculate 8,000-square-foot shop where team karts are prepared.
