Fresh off a podium finish in his Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour debut, junior rookie driver Austin Versteeg will be back in SKUSA action this weekend. Taking in the regional competition of the Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge at Grand Junction Motor Speedway, Versteeg will look to continue his hot streak during his rookie season in the junior karting ranks.
With the first two rounds of the SKUSA regional program kicking off this weekend, Versteeg will take on the 9/10 mile Grand Junction, Colorado facility. The sprint track features fast straights, technical corners and hairpin turns, as Versteeg will certainly be met with some intense racing in the competitive TaG Junior category.
Coming off a podium finish in the Pro Tour season opener in Phoenix a few weeks ago, Versteeg has emerged as a credible threat in west coast competition. Impressive in his junior rookie run to date in 2012, the 12-year-old Sandy, Utah resident was a heat race winner at the SpringNationals and was the fourth place finisher in round one before making his third place podium run in round two. Add in Versteeg's fourth place finish in the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas Rotax Junior championship, which included three podium results, as well as a strong showing in the Florida Winter Tour, Versteeg has been on a roll so far in 2012.
As Versteeg continues to log lap after lap, mile after mile, the rising talent will vie for his first win in the junior ranks this weekend in Colorado. The PSL Karting / CRG driver will be met with ideal driving conditions, as the picturesque mountain locale forecast for the weekend includes mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the low 80s. Versteeg will first take in event practice on Friday, leading up to official on track action featuring qualifying, two heat races and the day's main event on both Saturday and Sunday.
Versteeg will continue to utilize off weekends for testing and training at the brand new Nola Motorsports Park in New Orleans, Louisiana. As the newest and largest track in North America, the Nola Motorsports Park will offer full Rotax / CRG support for Versteeg as he builds his strength and race craft and continues to impress in the junior ranks in 2012.
Austin races with the generous support of PSL Karting / CRG, ULV race gear, Activa Technology and Nola Motorsports Park. For more information on Austin Versteeg, please visit http://www.AustinVersteeg.com |
