After a long hot weekend at PKRA, the Innovative Karting effort was able to perform well and bring home some hardware. With it being the home track the drivers were able to get settled in pretty quick and start to work the optimum setup for the heat of the weekend. With temps over 100 degrees all weekend, it made for hot racing on and off the track.
Running in the S2 category was Augie Lerch aboard his new 2012 Intrepid Silverstone KZ, SRS Honda kart. With a 5th place qualifying on the Saturday race, he was able to fight through the day and come home with a 5th place finish in the final. Dealing with the flu all weekend, this was a great effort.
On Sunday, the field ran even tighter and he could only manage a 13th place qualification. Working through the heats, he was involved in a crah and started at the tail of the field for the final. Putting his head down and driving hard, he was able to make his way back up to 8th in the final.
In the Innovative Karting sponsored S5 Category, we ran Micah Hendricks and Jim Mckinney. Both posting solid results dominating the class for the weekend in every session. With Pole postions on both days by Jim Mckinney aboard his Intrepid Cruiser V, he was able to score 2nd on Saturday and Victory on Sunday. Micah Hendricks aboard his Praga Dragon took the win on Saturday and came up short in 2nd on Sunday behind his teammate. Both drivers put in great efforts and are in strong position as we go into rounds 3 and 4 in Utah.
Thank you goes out to the fine staff of Superkarts USA for putting on a well organized and fun event. The staff dealt with the heat and the over 180 racers to bring an absolutely fantastic race weekend to the PKRA facility, as they always do.
The Innovative Karting team worked hard to prepare for the season opener and are now working on solid testing and practice to prepare for Utah and other events on the schedule. Utilizing Intrepid karts, Praga karts, SRS engines, RLV exhaust and other fine products, the team is looking to take home some more championships this year of racing.
