With a successful start to his 2012 racing program, Devlin DeFrancesco and his DeFrancesco Racing (DFR) squad would be back on track for the opening round of the WSK Euro Series. Taking place at the International Circuit Napoli in Sarno, Italy, Devlin would show speed and race craft coming from deep in the field on several occasions but in the end, would score a disappointing 17th place result.

"Devlin was quick in the unofficial test days leading up to the event," expressed Team Manager and Driver Coach Nick Mitchell. "We were confident heading into racing action but ran into some bad racing luck. A couple incidents in the heat races really put us behind the eight ball early and with the international competition at these events, it is hard to recover."

After qualifying in the ninth position in a field of nearly thirty, the DFR driver would need to survive the three-heat race flight program to garner a good starting position for the prefinal. With weather conditions changing throughout the weekend, DeFrancesco would be forced to change his driving style to accommodate the tricky track conditions.

Starting ninth for the first of three heat races, Devlin would run into some bad racing luck as an on track incident relegated him down the running order as he was eventually classified in the 20th position. Starting 20th for heat two, the Florida resident drove forward like a season veteran as he sliced his way through the field. Crossing the stripe in the eighth position, the whole DFR crew had high hopes that their weekend luck had changed.

Back on track for heat three and hoping to continue his forward momentum, DeFrancesco would run into another poor result coming home 23rd. A failure to the drive train on his LKE powered Top Kart forced the talented pilot to retire from the heat. With two results outside the top twenty, a difficult prefinal starting position was in the cards for the Pan American champion.

"I had a tough go in some of the heat races," expressed Devlin DeFrancesco. "I was really hoping to fight for the win but I just tried to salvage as many points as possible. The competition in WSK is some of the fiercest I have ever been a part of and every driver is very aggressive."

Looking for another drive forward from deep in the field, DeFrancesco would begin his prefinal from inside row ten in the 19th position. Again, showing his speed and determination to make his way towards the front of the field, the Canadian born driver drove to an impressive seventh place finish and would begin his quest for glory from inside row four for the final.

With a field full of some of the best Mini 60 drivers that the world has to offer, Devlin would falter slightly in the main event and cross the stripe in 12th. A post race penalty for an incident on track would relegate the future star down the order five more positions eventually classifying him 17th in the final results.

Mitchell continued, "We will put this weekend behind us and work towards improving for the next event."

Next on the docket for Devlin and DeFrancesco Racing will be the CSAI Championship in Sarno, Italy before attacking the second round of the WSK Euro Series at the International Circuit du Val d'Argenton in France.
