Industry News: Near Perfect Weekend for P1 Engines at Superkarts! USA SpringNationals

In what could be the company's best event for results ever, P1 Engines scored an astounding six pole positions and thirteen heat race wins on the way towards seven main event victories out of a possible eight classes at the SuperKarts! USA (SKUSA) SpringNationals. Taking place at the Phoenix Kart Racing Association (PKRA) facility in Phoenix, Arizona, P1 Engines powered drivers littered the podium taking home the majority of the hardware up for grabs.

Leading the charge in the TaG Senior category was Arizona resident Phil De La O. A fixture in the junior ranks for multiple years, De La O returned to the seat earlier in 2012 at the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas and made his presence felt in SKUSA competition this weekend. Sweeping the event's action, De La O utilized a P1 Engines prepared Parilla Leopard to score two pole positions, four heat race wins and two main event victories to take the overall point lead in the TaG Senior championship.

"Phil was a machine this weekend," expressed Jesus Vasquez, owner and engine builder for P1 Engines. "He never put a wheel wrong all weekend long and utilized our power to its utmost potential. He will be a threat for race wins throughout 2012."

Overcoming a poor qualifying effort in Saturday's action, Californian Austin Elliot drove to a solid fifth place finish in Saturday's TaG Senior wheel-to-wheel competition. Sunday would prove to be another tough qualifying effort for Elliot, but the young talent showed his race craft driving forward to a front row staring position for the main event. Looking to keep pace with his P1 Engines powered counterpart, Elliot would manage to claim the third and final podium position.

Showing their engine diversity, Matt Johnson would utilize a P1 Engines prepared Rok tt and run near the pointy end of the field. After a pair of string heat race results on Saturday, Johnson failed to finish the main event. Looking for redemption on Sunday, the Californian pilot drove to a solid fifth place result.

TaG Junior pilot Luke Selliken met P1 Engines' Jesus Vasquez for the first time on Friday morning when he was looking for a quick engine package. Renting and bolting on his Parilla Leopard, Selliken was one of the drivers to beat throughout the weekend. After taking the pole position on both Saturday and Sunday, Selliken struggled slightly in the heats claiming top five results. Ready to attack in the final, the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas Rotax Junior vice-champion drove forward to take the win. Back to the track on Sunday and having a day to get familiarized with his P1 Engines package, Selliken was untouchable taking the pole position, heat race wins and main event victory in dominating fashion.

TaG Cadet pilot Hunter Corbitt was on his game Saturday as he provided P1 Engines with another victory. After taking the top spot in both heat races, Corbitt drover to the checkers in the main event. Fellow P1 Engines powered TaG Cadet driver Jackson Logsdon would enter his first national event and had the speed to run at the front of the field. After taking the pole position for both days of wheel-to-wheel action, Logsdon would falter slightly in the main events to score a pair of fifth place finishes.

TaG Masters pilot Paul Bonilla looked to follow in the tire tracks of his fellow P1 Engines powered drivers and did so by taking two main event victories. After progressing through the heat races in fine form by scoring all four wins, Bonilla did not let the pressure get to him in the main event as he drove to the top step of the podium.

"I am extremely happy with all the results in Phoenix," stated Vasquez. "I had the opportunity to supply engines to seven different race teams and to come home with seven main event wins is something I am proud of. I am looking forward to the next event."

Next on the docket for P1 Engines will be another trip back to the eastern half of the United States. With the World Karting Association Manufacturer's Cup program taking to the Pittsburgh Race Complex in Wampum, PA, P1 Engines will be there to provide service and support to a host of competitors looking to score national race wins.
