| Series News: Red Line Oil Karting Championship - Round 2 Preview |
| |
With the season kick off, a combined IKF-RLOKC event under its belt, the Red Line Oil Karting Championships is preparing for Race #2. With a forecast of sunshine and the incentive of a large cash prize to one class winner a large turnout is anticipated. The tight and technical Sprint track configuration of the Simraceway Kart Track at Infineon Raceway will make for an exciting challenge with a $1000 prize to be awarded to one winner of any class with at least 8 entries. All 8+ entry class winners will have their name put in the hat at the end of the day and one lucky race winner will go home with the $1000 check.
This year, the RLOKC is made up of two separate series, the Sanzaru Games NorCal Rotax Challenge for the Rotax classes and the Molecule Karting Championship for all other classes. Given the strong entries in many of the classes at a wet Race #1, 2012 will make for some great competitive racing.
The GoPro feature class will be the Junior Rotax class, race winner will receive a GoPro Hero Camera.
Sanzaru Games Norcal Rotax Challenge Preview
The most exciting class for 2012 could be the Junior Rotax class with an expected entry of 12 to 16 karts. It has been 4 years since this class has been this size and with so many talented drivers in the lineup, this class should be the one to watch for competitive racing all year long. New to NorCal, Alex Keyes took home the win in Race #1 with three strong Mini-Max graduates right behind, Mikey Michoff, Annie Breidinger and Michael Avansino. Senior Rotax again looks to be strong this year with new dad Carlos Calderon taking the win last month ahead of fellow 30+ driver David Harwin from Reno. The young bucks in Senior Rotax have to get their game together this coming weekend if they want to out duel these two veteran racers. Rotax Masters should also put a large field on the track this coming weekend. DD2 looks to be gaining some strength with some new faces including expert driver Cody Hodgson.
Molecule Karting Championship
The non-Rotax classes have their own series sponsor this year with Molecule Products backing the championship. The "spec gear" IAME TaG should continue its growth in 2012 with the strong entry numbers from last year. Four Junior TaG karts were in attendance at Race #1 which a good sign for this class. The Stock 125 Honda classes looks to build up its numbers in 2012 after its return to the Infineon raceway kart track in 2011. Twelve karts made up the field last month, and this was on a soggy wet weekend. Expect Jason Toft and Brett Buckwalter to lead the Pro Stock Honda class with challenges from Daniel Langon and veteran NorCal driver Jamie Wilson. In the Stock Honda Masters class, Jim Inglebright, David Arnstein and Nick Galante will continue their battle for the top spot. The 80 Masters class will again produce strong fields this year, this being one of the best supported classes in the series for several years.
Practice and Pre-Registration will begin will be available from 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday. Practice is $50 for the day and all karts are welcome to run practice as long as the drivers are veteran drivers and driving karts that meet current safety standards. All registration will be in building to the right of the Infineon Main Gate # 1, behind the large wall). Registration will open for Saturday at 8:00am and at 7:00am for Sunday. Sunday Raceday starts practice at 8:10 with racing beginning about 11:00. Entry fee is $100, $10 for transponder rental, $10 for each additional pit pass, $5 for kids under 12. Rotax membership is required for all National Rotax classes, cost is $45 and can be done at Registration. A one race waiver of Rotax membership is given to all first time racers to the Rotax classes.
