The smell of race gas and tire rubber is once again in full force across the country as the 2012 race season gets underway. With the first three months now completed, the core of the season is just around the corner. To help kick off the upcoming busy schedule, EKN is proud to release the first edition of the 2012 eKartingNews.com Constructors Championship. The first two rounds of the six-race WKA Manufacturers Cup Series has been calculated in along with the Florida Winter Tour and Challenge of the Americas programs. Leading the way to start off 2012 is the Tony Kart brand.
With a total score of 257, the defending EKN Constructors Championship winner is already halfway to their 2011 total score. With three events over 45 points, Tony Kart has a lead of 79 points over former champs Arrow. Tony Kart scored the highest total in five of the 11 events counted thus far - all coming from the Florida Winter Tour led by Ocala Gran Prix and the many other Tony Kart squads competing there. Arrow, scoring points in all 11 events, has the highest total at three events, all stops on the Challenge of the Americas series thanks to the KartSport North America and Full Throttle Karting operations.
Third place is another former EKN CC champion, CRG. The black and orange brand scored points in 10 of the 11 events, with its highest point total coming from the opening round of the Florida Winter Tour Rotax Max Challenge (43 points). PSL Karting and CRG America are the driving force behind their results. Fourth is Intrepid, getting its best start in the EKN CC, led by the new Intrepid North America operation. The second stop of the FWT Rotax series was their best showing thus far. Rounding out the top-five is Birel. The red machines scored its best at the 2012 opener for the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series thanks to MRP Motorsport and MKP.
Top Kart, the high total for the Daytona KartWeek event, is sixth to start out the year over Kosmic, PCR, Merlin and WKA Kershaw top point-getter Haase. With Mike Doty Karting having their best combined event in recent years, the brand has broken into the EKN CC top-10 for the first time.

EKN Constructors Championship Guidelines
The EKN Constructors Championship calculation process includes the top-five finishers in each recognized class (Senior-Master-Junior classes). The SKUSA Pro Tour, US Rotax Grand Nationals, and Pan American Challenge will earn points with the following structure; 1st=20 points, 2nd=16 points, 3rd=12 points, 4th=8 points, 5th=4 points. The remaining events will continue to be awarded with the previous ranking system; with first place earning five (5) points down to fifth place earning one (1) point for each category. There is a minimum of 10 starting entries for the class points to be counted toward the season total in the EKN CC standings.
