DeFrancesco Brings Another WSK Master Series Podium to North America

It’s been a successful opening three months for North American drivers competing overseas against the best karting has to offer. Canadian Lance Stroll and American Logan Sargeant have scored podium finishes thus far, and Devlin DeFrancesco is the latest. The Canadian/American finished third in the 60 Mini category at the WSK Master Series finale at the ‘7 Laghi’ International Circuit in Castelletto di Branduzzo, Italy.

DeFrancesco started the event out qualifying second overall in a field of 31 drivers. After placing fourth and third in the first two qualifying heats, Devlin came through with the his first heat win to end up second overall in the classifications. Starting off pole for the Prefinal, he battled for the win, coming up just 0.072-seconds short at the line. Starting once again outside row one, DeFrancesco lost a few positions after the green flag waved. He would fight back to end the 10-lap event in the third position aboard his Top Kart/LKE entry. In the final series classification, Devlin finished fourth in the standings as one of two drivers to score points in all six races (including Prefinals and Finals).

American Logan Sargeant (Tony Kart/LKE) competed as well. After qualifying fourth, he had three tough heat races to finish 13th in the classification. Moving up two positions in the Prefinal to start 11th, he advanced to finish sixth in the Final. The results put him ninth in the final point standings.

Three North Americans competed in the KF3 division with Stroll once again leading the way. Qualifying 16th, Stroll came through with three strong heat race finishes (5th, 2nd, 3rd), but a 22nd put him 14th in the classifications. In Prefinal B, Stroll started seventh and finished third to start row three in the main event. The 16-lap Final was another time to shine, advancing up to fourth. He would finish the championship in the fourth position. Fellow countryman Zachary Claman DeMelo (CRG/BMB) raced his way into the Final round. Ending qualification in 22nd, he fell down the order after the heat races to end up 41st. Lined up inside row 11 of Prefinal A, he knifed his way to place 13th while posting the fast lap of the race to earn a spot in the Final. Starting from row 13 in the Final, Zachary drove another stellar race to finish an amazing ninth in his first WSK Master race for CRG Spa. American Dalton Sargent (Tony Kart/Vortex) was off the pace most of the day, as the 2011 US Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals Junior champion missed out on the main event by just two positions.

The WSK Euro Series is set to begin April 12-15 in Sarno, Italy.
