WKA Approves CIK Bodywork for 2012 Gold Cup Series
Article by: WKA PitBoard

WKA officials have announced the addition of CIK bodywork into the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series, effective the first event of the season, the March 1-3 Barnes Paving Nationals at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida.

The decision came as a result of discussion by the Gold Cup Competition Committee, and unanimously endorsed by the WKA Board of Trustees.

The use of CIK style bodywork will be legal in all Gold Cup classes and must meet the criteria listed in section 200/208 of the 2012 WKA Tech Manual.

It also must be noted that a mix of Gold Cup and CIK bodywork is legal as long as the respective pieces used follow the applicable rules for that style bodywork being used, e.g., traditional Gold Cup Nose Cone used with CIK style side pods is legal.

Attn: 2 Cycle Gold Cup Competitors: Competitors in the Gold Cup X30 Senior, X30 Junior and Komet Sportsman will be required to follow the same specs as in the Manufacturer's Cup Series specifically with regards to bodyworks, chassis, and engine specs.

LO 206 Kid Kart update for Gold Cup
As preparations continue for the upcoming Barnes Paving Nationals for the WKA RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series March 1-3 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, WKA officials continue to fine tune and prepare competitors for what will be a most busy weekend of competition.

In an effort to maintain the highest standard of safety, in the event of wet weather activity the new LO 206 Kid Kart class will not run in wet track conditions.

However, if it appears track conditions will change, reverting competitors back to slicks, Kid Karts will be allowed to participate based on where the events schedule is in the day. Every effort will be made to ensure Kid Kart competitors get their time on the track.

While the decision was made to elevate this program to national points competition, it does not deter from the fact that the bulk of the competitors are 5 and 6 years old, placing WKA in a most protective situation of their newest competitors to the sport.

Should the LO 206 class not make it on the track due to weather, competitors in that class would each receive the same amount of rain points for the event, also drawing for their top 5 awards, as per the 2012 WKA Tech Manual.

Chapel Hill Grand National open to all competitors
On the heels of the Monday announcement concerning the new program for WKA Speedway Pavement competitors, the most popular question was whether the August Grand National event at Chapel Hill Raceway in Humphrey, New York applied solely to drivers who were locked in by virtue of their victory in their respective Super Regionals.

While winners of Super Regionals will have certain perks by virtue of their successes prior to the Grand National, in order to build the Pavement program back up, divisionally and nationally, the Grand National event is open to ALL competitors, no matter what their status.

Additionally, drivers do not have to compete at a Divisional or Super Regional in order to compete at Chapel Hill as well. The event is open to any and all participants. If there is a class for you, then you are more than welcome to attend.

Competitors may also run more than one divisional. WKA is not making any demands of any competitors, other than you have to be a WKA member in order to compete, which is a standard at any WKA Sanctioned events.

The program is also open to any additional tracks that would like to sign up. Currently, there are 2 more northeastern tracks finalizing details, with potentially 2 more tracks in the northeast possibly interested. Cut off for track participation will be April 1.

More details regarding the new pavement program will be forthcoming.
