Matt Ostiguy, the So. Cal. DD2 Rotax Champion raced at the Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, Arizona in the first rounds of the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas races, representing Team PSL Karting as a PSL SoCal driver in the Team CRG West paddock this past weekend.

Matt hasn’t raced since last August and briefly had some seat time over a month ago during the holidays. The weekend was challenging to say the least arriving on Friday and having minimal track time. Matt qualified sixth on Saturday and finished the pre-final in the sixth position. During the main he was able to move up to the fourth position half way through the race, but lost a position with only a few laps to go and finished in 5th place.

Looking for a better result on Sunday, Matt posted his fastest lap of the weekend during qualifying, but still qualified sixth. During the pre-final he finished in the fifth position, which gave him a better starting position for the main. His best finish of the weekend was in the main race with a 4th place finish.

“It was a frustrating weekend with my minimal track time in Tucson and I was disappointed with my results, but I’m looking forward to racing again and being more competitive!”

The Gatorz Challenge of the Americas is a six-race winter championship that offers direct qualifying spots to the Rotax U.S. Nationals and Rotax World Finals. The Gatorz Challenge of the Americas is the premier winter karting series on the west coast.

GATORZ Vizion announced their 2012 sponsorship of Matt Ostiguy, the champion open wheel kart racer (2010 and 2009 Gatorz Eyewear Golden State Karting Cup DD2 Rotax Champion and the 2008 and 2007 Los Angeles Karting Championship Series Senior Rotax Vice-Champion). In 2011, Matt Ostiguy also had his car racing debut in an LMP - Le Mans Prototype Radical sports car at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California with JBR Motorsports.

“I am very excited about my sponsorship with the new GATORZ Vizion brand - there isn't a better brand of sunglasses out on the market today that provides a variety of very cool and unique styles, including in both metal (aluminum) and plastic frames, than GATORZ Vizion." Matt said.

“All of us at GATORZ Vizion are excited about the rebranding of the company and to have Matt Ostiguy Racing help us spread the word both on and off the race track! " said Kerry Lynch, CEO of GATORZ Vizion. “Matt has worked very hard over the last couple of years exposing the brand of GATORZ to the motorsports world and we look forward to continuing our relationship, especially as he continues racing cars with JBR Motorsports."

GATORZ Vizion, Matt’s sponsor is offering a special 25% discount for all sunglasses purchased online at (http://www.gatorz.com) by simply entering the coupon code: MAT025 (all caps).

Matt is able to compete at this level thanks to his kart technician and driving coach, Francois Doran of KartTech (http://www.karttechonline.com) and his sponsors, including: Alpinestars (http://www.alpinestars.com), Bell Helmets (http://www.bellracing.com), and the new rebranded GATORZ Vizion (http://www.gatorz.com).
