Temperatures are extremely warm in the northern states for the month of January and the start of February. And that could mean record numbers this year for the Ohio Valley Karting Association Swap Meet. For the 26th year, the central Ohio kart club will host one of the largest shows of the winter season at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ohio on February 4. The one-day show will fill up the building with plenty of vendors and karters looking to sell products. We tracked down OVKA Board of Directors member Doug Benson for a quick ‘EKN Fast Five’ questions about the show.
eKartingNews.com: This is the 26th year of the famous OVKA Swap Meet. What is about the event that keeps vendors and attendees coming back each year?
Doug Benson: There are several reasons and the first would be the strength of the OVKA as an organization and everyone over the years that have been involved in putting on the event. Another would be the balance of attracting two different groups in karting between the predominantly two cycle OVKA sprint racing member/vendors and the large number of four cycle dirt oval racers throughout the eastern half of the United States. Last is being located in the Midwest where racing is so popular. We are roughly 90 minutes from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Eldora, and Mid Ohio.
EKN: Who is on the list of kart shop venders you have attending this year’s show?
DB: American Powersports, Streeter, GMan, Dover Power, Appco, Uncle Franks, Smith Brothers Racing, Dyno Cams, Dixie Racing and Target Distributing to name a few
EKN: Your website states there will be over 200 booths with products available for sale and trade. Is there any room for any last minute booths sign-ups or are you sold out for the year?
DB: We will have up to 200 booths indoors and there is also additional space outside for people wanting to sell out of trailers.
EKN: Certainly among the largest shows in the country, has the Clark County Fairgrounds always been the location for the OVKA Swap Meet?
DB: We have been at the current site for 13 or 14 years and prior to that it was held in Troy, OH.
EKN: What type of technical seminars will take place during the show and what will be the hours and cost for the show?
DB: Cost is free. The schedule is on our Facebook page at Ohio Valley Karting Association.
