| Driver News: Olivier Bellanger - Florida Karting Championship Series Report |

 | | Olivier Bellanger |
After a rocky start to the 2012 Florida Winter Tour series a couple of weeks ago, K1 RaceGear sponsored driver Olivier Bellanger made the trip to Miami-Homestead for the start of the Florida Karting Championship Series to get some pay back.
This was overall a good weekend, for the first race of the series. Olivier was able to save the day with a win in the Mini Rok after an unfortunate breakdown on the formation lap of the final of the ROTAX Mini Max class where he qualified third. In the Vortex Tag Cadet/Mini Rok class he had much better luck, qualifying on pole, taking a win in the pre-final, and going on to take the win in the final. Olivier went unchallenged on track, having lead every single lap of both races, and posting the fastest lap in the class for the weekend.
Unfortunately, he was penalized one position after the race after he crossed the finish line, because he raised both hands in celebration instead of keeping one hand on the steering wheel.
Olivier added “I spent the Monday reading all of the WKA rules, and I won't make that mistake ever again! I'm ready for the officials to quiz me now on the rulebook. I would like to thank the whole OGP Team, especially Mr. Jorge, Nate for tuning my Mini Rok and Mini Max engines, my mechanics and tuners Jay McKeage and Cody Hodgson, and many thanks to my awesome sponsor K1 Race Gear!”
Olivier has some confidence heading into the next rounds of racing with the second round of the Florida Winter Tour and the Florida Karting Championship series in the coming weeks, and he should be one driver to watch headed into the next rounds of racing in February. |
