Indoor News: Grand Prix New York - Mt Kisco Winter League Round 2 Report

This past Tuesday round two of Mt Kisco’s Grand Prix NY Adult Racing League was held. This evening the racing happened on the very tight and technical Uptown track. Because of the technical nature of this track a premium was placed on qualifying.

First up this evening was the GTO (205lb) group and out of the box Gary Megennis was quickest with a time of 24.62 while Mike Cohen grabbed second with a time of 24.98 and Andrew Wood was third with a fast lap of 25.18. At the drop of the green Cohen tried getting under Megennis, but the move didn’t stick and Megennis was able to move out to a comfortable lead which he held to the end. In heat two the top two stayed the same, but Tom Caspar was able to get the third starting position. Megennis once again motored to a victory with Cohen in tow. Behind them, Wood was able to get past Caspar to grab third. Behind them Ennis Bragg drove a brave race as he was nursing a torn rotator cuff and did the entire evening one handed.

The next group up was GTBB (245lb). Last week’s runner up, Cory Rossi grabbed pole by a tenth over Gary Proft’s 24.97. In third was Dave Harmon who beat out Adrian Salageneau by a tenth. At the drop of the green Harmon was able to get under Proft and was able to hold him off until lap 8 when Proft got him under braking going into the hairpin. This is how the first heat would finish. Rossi earned pole for heat two with Proft again second, while newcomer David Steinschraber was able to get the third starting position. At the green Harmon was able to slice past Steinscrhaber, while further back Salageneau got bogged down and lost four positions. At the end Rossi again prevailed while Proft held on for a well earned second over Harmon.

The last group this evening was GTU (175lb). Gary Megennis brought his A game this evening as he was able to get pole in both of his weight groups. A tenth back was Alex Eickelbeck and three hundredths behind him was Lauren Horowitz. Megennis continued his winning ways with a 5 second victory over Horowitz who was able to get past Eickelbeck for the position. In third was Mark Eickelbeck. David Lapham set the fastest lap of the race and that put him on pole for heat two. Alex was once again second while Megennis’ streak was broken for the evening and he started from third place. Lapham used his pole position to full advantage and was leading for the first part of the race. After a lengthy red flag at lap 12, Alex was able to grab point and wound up with the victory. Lapham grabbed second and Megennis rounded out the podium.
