A name on the list of rising motorsport stars in the United States is Colorado’s Sabré Cook. The 17-year old has been preparing for a climb into the motorsports world after a solid career thus far in karting. The 2011 season saw continual development for the CRG-USA driver in the karting ranks, competing from January through November at high-profile events and series with successful results.
Beginning out the year at the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas Rotax International Winter Series, Cook gained experience starting out her second season in the Senior level. She then turned numerous laps at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway Club Series, her home track, while also competing in the Superkarts! USA Mountain Region series. Cook hit some high-profile events on the year as well with mix results. The United States Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals in Utah ended in disappointment after a solid top-15 finish in last year’s event. In October, Cook finished fifth in a star-studded Pro Shifter category at the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix in California.
The main focus on the year was the three events that made up the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour for 2011. The SpringNationals in Tucson, Arizona saw Cook earn two top-15 finishes to open up the year on a track she had never seen before. The SummerNationals took place at her home track in Grand Junction, Colorado. The first day, Cook drove to a fifth place finish and was on her way to a podium in day two until contact ended her day early.
The most recent event was the Pro Tour finale - the SuperNationals XV at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The November 15-20 event took place on a temporary circuit outside the casino/hotel with over 500 drivers taking part. Cook contested the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto division for the second straight year after finishing 18th in her class debut in 2010. Racing against 57 other competitors, Cook laid down an impressive lap to sit 13th overall in qualifying. During the three heat races, she muscled her way forward to record results of fourth, sixth and second to line up fourth in the main event. At the start of the 25-lap final, Sabré was pushed to the outside of turn one, losing a number of spots in the process. Staying composed and calculated, she knifed her way up back to sixth. Unfortunately, during the impressive run, the axle shifted and caused the chain to break apart on the final lap. Her results on the season put her eighth place in the final championship standings, signaling her as one of the contenders for 2012.
“The SuperNationals was a great experience overall for me, even though the end result was disappointing. SKUSA put on a wonderful event as usual and I feel I made a big step as a driver with my performance through the week,” commented Sabré. “I am looking forward to striving for good results at the event next year and also in the Pro Tour championship standings for 2012.”

Prior to her SuperNationals assault, Cook took part in the prestigious Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shootout at the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Past winners of the event include AJ Allmendinger, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Ricky Taylor, Joel Miller and many others. Sabré was one of 22 karters competing for a portion of the $135,000 sponsorship programs offered to a select number of drivers for 2012. Throughout the four-day event, the drivers were tested and judged off and on the track, piloting the Formula Skip Barber race cars. While Cook was impressive in both aspects, she was not awarded any part of the prizes offered but gained valuable exposure for her move into open-wheel cars.
“The chance to be part of the Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shootout was very helpful in my development as a driver,” stated Cook. “Although I was not awarded a scholarship, I still took away very valuable tips thanks to the Skip Barber instructors and my driver coach, Thomas Merrill. I am actively seeking sponsorship to fund my ride in the Skip Barber Summer Series, in which I feel confident I will obtain strong results if allowed the opportunity.”
Sabré plans to continue developing into the 2012 season. She will once again compete under the CRG-USA banner on the karting side, contesting the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas, Superkarts! USA Pro Tour and other events throughout the season. Cook would like to thank her racing support program; CRG-USA, Grand Junction Motor Speedway, Zamp Helmets, Xtreme Colors Helmet Painting, KG Kart Racing Products, Alpine Bank, Palisade Construction, Inc., Gold’s Gym, Enstrom’s Candies.
