Streeter Super Stands’ Wesell to Pull WKA Daytona KartWeek Double Duty

Streeter Super Stands' Jeff Wesell will compete in the road racing and sprint events at WKA Daytona KartWeek
Streeter Super Stands' Jeff Wesell will compete in the road racing and sprint events at WKA Daytona KartWeek

One kart, one engine, one driver and two tracks equal two days of pure fun. That will be the mission at hand for Streeter Super Stands Director of Operations Jeff Wesell, as he journeys down to the World Karting Association Daytona KartWeek on December 28-30. Ranked among the top events of the sport, KartWeek is the kickoff to the new season. The Daytona International Speedway becomes home to karters between Christmas and New Year’s Eve as drivers from all around the country do battle in three different categories, dirt oval, road racing and sprint. For the 39-year old Wesell, his quest will be to compete with the same kart/engine package in both the road racing and sprint events.

Wesell will complete the first day of competition as part of the Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series driven by Mazda Daytona Championships. The three-day event is split into two days of racing with practicing taking place all day on Wednesday, December 28. Drivers will compete on the famous 3.5-mile road course, utilizing for the first time the new pavement that was laid down around the entire oval portion in 2010. Speeds by some of the karts will likely reach 150 mph as they cross the start/finish line before diving into the infield. Jeff will be competing in the Stock Leopard class aboard a Merlin chassis, powered by a Parilla Leopard that will hit speeds of well over 100mph around the oval sections.

To complete his double duty goal, Wesell will make the necessary changes to convert his kart for the second day of action at the George Kugler/Bridgestone Manufacturer’s Cup Series driven by Mazda-Margay Sprint Championships. Over 600 entries are expected during the two days, ranging from Cadets to TaG to make up the 20 classes that will be on the schedule. The sprint track is located inside the NASCAR Turn 3-4 section of the facility and is roughly 0.7-mile in length. Wesell will compete in the TaG Masters division, reserved for drivers over the age of 35, which will now take part in both days of competition for the series in 2012.

Of course, the third part of the trip will be the business side, as Wesell will also be attending to the customers of Streeter Super Stands. Wesell and his new partners behind the company have given the brand a fresh look, all the while keeping focused on the same important customer service and quality products that founder Larry Streeter established. The entire Streeter Super Stands crew will be in Daytona, supporting their customers and dealers at all three events in Daytona.

“The next week is going to be a fun and exciting time for me and the Streeter Super Stands crew,” stated Jeff Wesell. “I’ve received great support from the Hepfners. Troy is pushing me hard to race both events. He and Glenn will be working the Man Cup side while I’m at road racing. They, along with their families, will be making their first-ever Daytona KartWeek trip. That, in itself, is going to be interesting and fun. All intentions are to run both, though in the event of an un-planned malfunction or we fire the driver, it might not happen (laughing). We are bringing down the gear to change the kart over to the sprint side so we will see what happens come next Thursday night.”

eKartingNews.com will be working with Jeff and the Streeter Super Stands crew to provide an Official Streeter Super Stands blog in the General Discussions section of the forums for everyone to follow and participate during their trip. Starting with the trip down to Florida and back home to Wisconsin, each day is sure to bring some entertainment. EKN will also be working with WKA to provide updates and reports from the event as we get them.
