| IKF Region 7 Confirms 2012 Schedule and Classes |
| |
The International Kart Federation Region 7 sprint series, touted as one of the biggest regional programs in the country, is moving forward into the future. For 2012, the motto is ‘Region 7 is back’, as the program is heading in a fresh direction with new leadership and new outlook. Seven events have been scheduled for the upcoming season, all two-day race events to host 11 classes for a seven round championship series. The series will be a combination of several tracks and club organizations throughout the region providing the best traveling series possible in Southern California.
“I have had a tremendous response from the local racing teams. We have secured racing commitments from the who's who of west coast racers. Our momentum is tremendous at this point,” stated IKF Region 7 series coordinator Stewart Willis. “In coordinating our schedule, I first consulted Tom Kutscher of SKUSA and Andy Seesemann of Gatorz to ensure that we worked together and not against each other. What has plagued karting in recent years has been the overlap of west coast race series. Kart shops were forced to choose which to attend. With the help of those individuals in addition to the clubs and tracks in the region, we were able to insure that no such conflicts exist with for the IKF Region 7 schedule for 2012. This series will be a great deal for everyone, the karters, the kart shops and the sport of karting.”
The opening race is set for March 3-4 at the historic Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside, hosted by SoCal Sprinters. The Willow Springs Kart Club will host round two, set for the kart track at the Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond on May 5-6. Round three will take place at the Apex Kart Racing facility in Lake Perris on June 2-3, hosted by the Pacific Association of Karters. Santa Maria Karting Association will greet the IKF Region 7 series on August 4-5 at their facility in Santa Maria. Grange Motor Circuit in Apple Valley on September 1-2 and Buttonwillow Raceway Park on October 6-7 will host rounds five and six. The seventh and final round will take place November 3-4 with a location to be determined.
The class structure for the 2012 IKF Region 7 program will include 11 classes split up over the two days of racing. TaG Senior, PRD Senior and KPV 4 Heavy will fill out the categories for the Senior level. PRD Junior 2 and KPV 2 are reserved for Junior level. Cadet drivers have four options with PRD Junior 1, KPV 1 Light, KPV 1 Heavy, and Rookie Comer; while Kid Karts will have a Light and Heavy. Officials for the event have also been put in place with Bob English signed on as series race director alongside Bob Phillips as the assistant race director and head flagman. Tech director will be IKF’s John Motley with the play-by-play action on track called by Tim ‘Chappy’ Chapman.
The industry leaders in the area have also stepped up to support the program with class sponsorship, including Pitts Performance, Grand Products, Empire Karts, P1 Engines, K&P Manufacturing, Buddy Rice Karting, PKS Kart Supplies, Purekarting.com, Fleming Racing Engines, RLV, and Mike Manning Karting.
