Team News: DeFrancesco Racing - 2011 Year in Review

After completing the 2010 racing season, 2011 looked bright for the up and coming duo of Devlin and Lachlan DeFrancesco. Racing out of their family owned DeFrancesco Racing (DFR) operation, both drivers would see battle both north and south of the border while Devlin would travel to Europe on multiple occasions. Always a threat for the victory, DFR drivers would battle at the front of the pack and garner hardware throughout the year.

Racing in high profile series such as the Florida Winter Tour (FWT), Winning Series Karting (WSK), Rotax Pan American Championship, United States Grand Nationals and Canadian National Championships, DFR would secure multiple race wins, championships and invaluable experience along the way. With a jam-packed schedule that included testing, Canadian, American and European events, the globetrotting DFR crew would be seen around the world.

Leading the way for the DFR squad is 11-year-old Devlin DeFrancesco. The talented driver had an impressive season in both North America and Europe. Competing against some of the world's best drivers, Devlin gained European experience to battle for race wins and championships in North America. After scoring the Vice-Championship in the Vortex Mini Rok TaG Cadet category and a third place result in the Rotax Mini Max class at the Florida Winter Tour, Devlin went on to claim one of his biggest wins of the 2011 race season at the Rotax Pan American Championship.

Taking place at the New Castle Motorsports Park facility just east of Indianapolis, Indiana, Devlin came from the tail of the field in the main event to take the win. Having scored a third place result in the prefinal, DeFrancesco was relegated to the tail of the field after a pre-race technical miscue on his entry form caused a disqualification. Showing his true determination, Devlin drove a flawless race in wet conditions to take a dominating race win. In Canada, Devlin claimed the Vice-Champion honors at the Canadian National Championships. Couple the Pan Am title with his Florida Winter Tour wins earlier in the year and countless podium results, the oldest DeFrancesco brother was one of the hottest karters under the age of twelve in the 2011 racing season.

Travelling to Europe, Devlin competed in several CSAI and WSK events with Emilia Kart, a Top Kart satellite team. Gaining experience against top drivers from multiple countries, Devlin consistently improved each and every outing. In his final European adventure, Devlin competes at the WSK event in Ortona, Italy scoring an impressive seventh place result. With fast race laps and solid results throughout the heat races, DeFrancesco proved that he is no slouch in international competition against the world's best competitors.

At the young age of eight, Devlin's younger brother Lachlan, was one of the youngest drivers in every series of competition in 2011. Competing against drivers two and three years his elder, the youngest DeFrancesco showed constant and steady improvement through the season. Lachlan's best event of the season was in Mont Tremblant, Quebec at the Canadian National Championships where he narrowly missed out on a podium result. Running in a solid position, Lachlan was involved in an incident on the final race lap with a slower vehicle that ruined his chances.

While still only eight, Lachlan has a couple more years in the Rotax Micro Max class as he continues to build up his speed and confidence. Working with his tuners and driver coach, Lachlan will be a threat for race wins and championships for years to come.

"Both Devlin and Lachlan had great seasons," expressed Team Manager and Driver Coach Nick Mitchell. "With the experience gained this season and results to build on, 2012 is looking good for us and DeFrancesco Racing. Our first series of competition will be the 2012 Florida Winter Tour where we will look to complete some unfinished business."
