| |
With the first annual Indy Karting Classic set to take place less than a week from today, multiple finishing touches are being put on the event. With NASCAR and IndyCar Series drivers set to compete head-to-head, Indy Karting Classic (IKC) and International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) officials have confirmed several event day displays for participants, enthusiasts and fans.
"Working with the IMIS show officials as well as IndyCar and NASCAR personnel, we have been able to line up some big name drivers and displays for this annual event," stated co-race promoter Shannon Parks. "Not only will we have the new DW12 IndyCar on display, we will also have simulators as well as other formula cars."
While F1000 and F2000 cars will be seen trackside showing the natural ladder to the professional ranks of motorsports, an IndyCar simulator will also be set up for fans to interact with the on track action. Thanks to the IZOD IndyCar Series, the newly design 2012 machine named after the late Dan Wheldon will also be available for spectators to get up close and personal with.
"Along with all the other plans and festivities for the day, we will also have Dan Wheldon's Tony Kart at the show for spectators to view," explained event organizer Bill McLaughlin. "Dan was a huge inspiration to the karting community and was ready to compete in this event. Honoring him at the Indy Karting Classic will be something special for everyone involved."
With the event open to the public and ticket sales through Ticketmaster, motorsports fans, enthusiasts, sponsors and friends can come experience the inaugural Indy Karting Classic. With new names such as Josef Newgarden and Ed Carpenter added to the driver line-up, as well as 2011 Indy 500 Pole Sitter Alex Tagliani, Tomas Scheckter, Jay Howard and 2011 race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay for Team IndyCar as well as Indiana's own and 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart, 2011 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Austin Dillon, ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards 2011 champion Ty Dillon as well as Richard Petty Motorsports driver AJ Allmendinger for Team NASCAR, the event is sure to be one for the ages.
With the one-day event taking place on Sunday, December 11, 2011, the jam packed day will feature a full slate of practice, qualifying, heat races and main events. With a small entry fee that includes an indoor pit space, oil, fuel and a set of tires, karters will have the opportunity to display their skills in front of a large crowd.
Entry forms and contact information can be found at http://www.IndyKartingClassic.com. With limited space available as classes will be capped at 30 competitors, registration will come on a first come first serve basis as competitors are urged to enter immediately.
