For the second year in a row, a Canadian driver stood on the top step of the podium in Rotax DD2 class at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals. Defending the championship run by Daniel Morad last year in Italy, Pier-Luc Ouellette drove a brilliant race to score his second DD2 title at the Grand Finals in Al Ain, UAE. Backing up his 2007 Championship run, at the same location he won his first, Ouellette also helped Canada earn the vice-championship in the new Nations Cup format.
It was an eventful day for Canadian's that saw our drivers score five top-ten results. Not quite matching last year's unbelievable final day, it was still another great year that once again showed just how powerful the Canadian Rotax scene is. Sending a RMCGF record number of drivers, with 21, Canada not only covered a large portion of the paddock area, but also had fifteen of those drivers transfer to todays Grand Finals, another great feat. Canada also seemed to have the largest audience in the grandstands around the Al Ain Raceway and anytime a Canadian driver made a pass, the 'world' heard it with loud cheers and roars. This also extended into the official drivers presentation where it seemed like the Canadian driver intro's just wouldn't end.
Another successful year for Team Canada for sure, here's how the final day of competition went.
