Dear ROTAX Customers,
We would like to provide you the following verification and official statement of BRPPowertrain.
At the Grand Finals 2010, the Estonian driver Mr. Martin Rump (starting no. 66, class 125 Junior MAX) has been disqualified by the official stewards just after the final because of an infringement with the technical regulations of the ROTAX MAX Challenge.
In the Additional Supplementary Regulations of the Grand Finals 2010 (approved by the stewards) the optional parts allowed during the event have been exactly defined including the optional permitted seat stays per racing class.
The accurate regulation assures that all competitors use the same equipment and therefore having the equal opportunities in showing their talent on the race track. After the final race of the 125 Junior MAX class the stewards stated at the postscrutinizing in "parc ferme" that one of the seat stays used on the kart of Mr. Martin Rump has not been approved within the Additional Supplementary Regulation which led consequently into a disqualification of Mr. Martin Rump from the Grand Final 2010.
Mr. Jordi van Moorsel as the 2nd ranked driver has been subsequently declared by the stewards as the winner of the 125 Junior MAX class 2010.
Mr. Martin Rump filed an appeal against this decision at the Italian Motorsports Federation CSAI. Unfortunately BRP-Powertrain, as the promoter of the Grand Finals of the ROTAX MAX Challenge, was never involved or aware of this appeal until recently, which was after the period where we could have appealed that decision.
CSAI has taken the decision to reinstate Mr. Martin Rump as the winner for the Junior MAX class of the Grand Finals 2010. The decision of the CSAI was based on a technical study that a non original seat stay (also different length) has no impact on the performance/handling of a race kart and may therefore not lead into a disqualification.
Again, the ROTAX MAX Challenge stands for fair competition with similar equipment.
The detailed technical regulations and their strict enforcement are a fundamental part of the ROTAX MAX Challenge.
Therefore, BRP-Powertrain will maintain its original ruling and not reinstate Mr. Martin Rump as the winner of the 125 Junior MAX class 2010.
In the light of this recent event, we will put even more emphasis on directing the participant's attention to the applicable rules and procedures for the upcoming Grand Finals, which will remain unchanged. This is key to ensure that the racing conditions are the same for every driver.
We are looking forward to another great Grand Final event this year which will take place in Al Ain / UAE.
