24 Hours for TSA to Attempt World Record Today

Today, October 25, beginning at 10am EDT, Virginia’s Trey Shannon will attempt to break a world record in a kart. Focused on supporting the Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA), Shannon will take part in the ‘24 Hours for TSA’ - an attempt to break the world record for driving a kart solo for 24 hours. The event will take place at the New Castle Motorsports Park in central Indiana, on a just-under 1-mile course that just hosted a 200-lap endurance race over the weekend.

Shannon, a member of the karting community who is affected by Tourette Syndrome, will attempt to break the current record set at 801.38-miles, done by Lloyd de Boltz-Miller of Norfolk, UK on October 1, 2010. Bringing the record to the United States while raising money to raise awareness and funding for research for TS are Shannon’s drive to complete this hefty goal.

EKN spoke with Trey Sunday following the RoboPong 200 at New Castle Motorsports this past Sunday. Here is the audio interview: Trey Shannon Before the 24 Hours for TSA.

Shannon - 26 years old - has been living with TS since a very young age. As he has grown older, it has reduced to some fairly mild ‘tics’ and has never really prevented him from doing anything. Unlike many others who are not as lucky as he is, Trey wanted to find a way to help those and the TSA® out somehow. After doing research and learning about Team TSA and their ‘One Lap Closer to a Cure’ campaign through marathons and other types of events to raise money for awareness, Shannon began to formulate the 24 Hours for TSA event.

Trey became effectuated with motorsports after visiting the Long Beach Grand Prix when he was four years old. Finally when he was 16 and a family friend showed him a kart, his family could not hold him back any longer and purchased a kart and began racing at Orange County Raceway in North Carolina.

The machine Shannon will be piloting is a Birel chassis powered by a Rotax engine, provided by MRP Motorsport. To keep Trey on the track and the kart running to its best abilities will be Ohio-based Adrenaline Fix Karting, a veteran of endurance racing at the New Castle facility, to handle the trackside service over the 24-hours.

24 Hours for TSA would thank their partnership with several sponsors who have come on board to support this great event: MRP Motorsport, Ogden USA Racing Engines, Adrenaline Fix Karting, AiM Sports, Zamp Helmets, Hoosier Tires, Ribtect, Gold’s Gym Silver Spring MD, K1 RaceGear, Allsports Grand Prix, RoboPong, Infinit Nutrition, Polar Electro, Schneider Corporation.

Updates will be posted on the Official Discussion Thread in the EKN Forums.
