There’s simply no doubt that the annual RoboPong.com 200 Presented by Bridgestone has become a must-attend event for TaG racers on the East Coast. This year will mark the eighth edition of the race, which continues to be a highlight of the fall schedule. The race is set for October 22-23 at the popular New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana, where teams of between two and four drivers will battle for both attrition and each other over 200 laps around the 1-mile course, all gunning to add their names to the prestigious list of winners.
New Castle Motorsports Park is happy to announce some new information regarding the event. NOS Energy Drink has signed on as an associate sponsor of the race and will have plenty of product available during the weekend. Another big announcement for this year is that the winning team will be awarded a $6,000 paycheck for their efforts.
Bridgestone and Grand Products will each be awarding random prizes throughout the race, depending on position and laps. Bridgestone will award 10 sets of YLB tires during the event, while the special prize products from Grand Products are still to be determined. Both will be done at random, with predetermined positions on selected laps being awarded the prizes. The objective is to give the opportunity for any team in the event to go home with a prize should they not earn a cash position.
“The support we receive from RoboPong, Bridgestone, NOS and Grand Products certainly helps make this event go,” states New Castle Motorsports Park owner Mark Dismore. “Our goal is to provide a unique event where drivers of all different levels of skill can come and have a chance at winning. More importantly, we want to make sure that everyone who attends has fun. There is nothing like our race, as you never know just what will happen before that checkered flag waves.”
The Dismores are rolling out even more exciting news in an effort to continually improve and evolve the event. There will be more money on the table this time around, however, a little gambling may be involved if a team wants to cash in. The two front row qualifiers each have the option to start from the back of the 200-lap race and earn an additional $1000 if they win the race, which would surely kick things up a notch. All of this action will once again be available even to those enthusiasts who cannot make it to NCMP for the event. RaceFanNetwork.com will be providing live flag-to-flag audio coverage of the race starting at 12:00 pm and they will also have a one-hour wrap-up show after qualifying Saturday from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. NCMP will provide the live video for the race with multiple cameras for this year's event.
Other industry players are also stepping up to add value to the race. RLV will be providing a free PRD Engine kit to the highest finishing PRD-powered entry in the race, while Russell Karting is offering 40% off the price of a new MY09 Leopard Engine Kit to the highest finishing Leopard team. To keep this theme rolling, Comet Kart Sales is offering free labor (only pay for parts) to the highest finishing Leopard prepared by Comet Racing Engines.
Chassis contingencies are also available. KartSport North America is offering 50% off a new 2012 X1-E rolling chassis to the highest finishing Arrow team, as well as the highest finishing non-Arrow team in the race. BeaveRun Motorsports Park has thrown its hat in the right, as they will be providing 25 entries to their 2012 club races (worth $1000), which will be spread out through the field. Burris Racing is providing free oil as lap prizes as well.
Dismore and the New Castle staff did indeed make a change to the regulations following some testing and racer feedback. The Bridgestone YLB tire was initially selected as the spec tire for the event, however, they have reverted to the Bridgestone YLC compound.
“We evaluated the tire wear at the last WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series here at the track in the TaG classes and felt it was best to make this change. We have used the C compound for each RoboPong event and they have worked well,” continued Dismore.
Entry to the event is just $300 per team and pre-entry is encouraged. The level of the event’s potential success will be much higher should teams jump on-board early and announce their intentions.
