| WKA Announces Switch from Dunlop to Bridgestone for Junior Classes at Gold Cup Finale |

Due to the continued lack of availability of the agreed upon spec tire for 2011 on the Russell Karting Gold Cup Series, WKA Officials, as well as the full compliment of the series Competition Committee, in an effort to provide as consistent and level a playing field as possible, have been forced to make a major change for the series finale Sept 30-Oct for the GT Machine Grand Nationals at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania.
With an extemely limited and critical supply of Dunlop DEM 6.00 tires, clearly not enough available for competitors that utilize that tire on the series, officials have elected to mandate Bridgestone tires as the official spec tire for the season ending event FOR ALL JUNIOR CLASSES AGES 12-15. See list of classes affected below. Already an official spec tire participant on the Gold Cup Series through it's Firestone brand of tires for senior class drivers, officials felt the move was well within the legal bounds of the spec tire program.
While the senior class drivers will be able to finish the season on the Firestone brand, all Junior classes, age 12-15, utilizing the Dunlop tire will be switched to the Bridgestone YLC tire, still maintaining the same sizes, 4.50 on the fronts, 6.00 on the rear.
Drivers and teams who are already stocked with the Dunlop tires, should contact their supplier, as these tires will be needed by other racers still required to utilize the Dunlop tire.
Additionally, Referrals for Proposal were sent out to 8 major tire manufacturers, including Bridgestone, allowing ALL to bid on the tire program on the Gold Cup Series for the next 2 years. Deadline for submission of proposals are set for Tuesday September 20, with a final decision on choice of tire for the series for next year and beyond coming shortly.
WKA is extremely disheartened to be placed in this situation with it's loyal competitors, hopeful the moves being made for the series finale will no longer happen moving forward.
