| Vintage Karts Coming to Rock Island Grand Prix |
| |
The Rock Island Grand Prix, the world’s largest karting street race, in conjunction with the Vintage Karting Association, is excited to announce the addition of a Vintage Kart Exhibition and Race as part of this year’s program. AT&T and Casey’s General Stores are Presenting Sponsors of the Rock Island Grand Prix.
At least 18 karts are expected to be on display during the day Saturday, Sept. 3 when pro karters are completing in practice and qualifying. The Vintage Karts will run a practice session around 10:30 a.m. and then compete in their own showdown on the streets of Rock Island at 1 p.m. with Rob Howden on the call.
For many of the competitors, the return to the streets will be old hat as kart races held in the streets were common during the early years of the sport.
Karts on display will represent the Fifties, Sixties, Seventies and Eighties and each will have signage telling visitors some history about the kart. Most of the drivers will also be from that era, while some are younger.
