| Bridgestone to Offer Contingency Prizes and Cash at Rock Island Grand Prix |
| |
In a press release sent out by Grand Products Inc. and Margay Racing LLC - United States importers for Bridgestone Tires - contingency awards and cash prizes have been established for the upcoming Rock Island Grand Prix in Illinois on Labor Day weekend. With Bridgestone tires (YLA, YLB, YLC) allowed in the majority of the categories offered at the September 3-4 event, the importers wanted to reward those who are at the front of the fields with the Bridgestone name.
Entry into the 2012 Rock Island Grand Prix and other Bridgestone-supported events will be up for grabs as well as sets of Bridgestone tires. The extra incentive to those able to pilot a Bridgestone-mounted entry to two victories on the weekend, Grand Products and Margay Racing will award that driver $500 in cash.
For the open tire classes, any of the three Bridgestone compound tires are allowed. The TaG Senior, TaG Masters and Parilla Leopard classes will be following the TaG USA rules format, which allow the Bridgestone YLB to be a legal tire compound. The YLB has proven to be very successful over the past six months and is the current spec tire for the World Karting Association Manufacturer’s Cup Series, Kart Racers of America series at New Castle Motorsports Park, Florida Karting Championship Series, Great Lakes Sprint Series, Midwest Sprint Series and Badger Kart Club.
“The open tire classes will have a distinct advantage with the Bridgestone product line on the slick Rock Island surface,” expressed Mike Tetreault, owner of Grand Products. “The YLA is softer than the standard YLB compound has been the choice of Europeans in the CIK KF1 World Championship Series in Europe.”
Multi-time champion and Ocala Gran Prix driver Nick Neri reflected the same thoughts on the Bridgestone YLA tire, “I have been running the YLA compound on the Stock Moto shifter kart for the past three rounds in the Florida Karting Championship Series and they are one of the fastest tires I have ever driven on. The margin of victory versus drivers utilizing other compounds amazed me.”
“Both America’s and Europe’s best are choosing Bridgestone YLA to get them to the finish line first,” explained Margay Racing’s Keith Freber. “To sweeten the pot at Rock Island, Bridgestone added the $500 cash for anyone who wins two classes while utilizing Bridgestone tires.”
