| SKUSA Mountain Region Grand Junction Event Welcoming Host of Drivers |
| Article by: Superkarts! USA |
This weekend will mark the beginning of the 2011 season for the Superkarts! USA Mountain Region as they host two rounds of events at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway in Grand Junction, Colorado. The June 25-26 event is expected to be a busy and exciting weekend as the race will not only kick off the regional program, but also give national competitors the final chance to utilize the same circuit to be used for the SKUSA Pro Tour Mothers® SummerNationals next month. Pre-entries have already come in from California, Arizona, Utah and of course Colorado in all categories.
“We are excited to get the SKUSA Mountain Region underway in 2011,” stated SKUSA’s Tom Kutscher. The Colorado area has a number of exceptional karters, and we are happy to provide the best option for TaG and shifterkarts. The Cook family and staff at Grand Junction Motor Speedway have been instrumental in making sure everything is in place for this weekend and next month when we return for the SKUSA SummerNationals.”
Grand Junction Motor Speedway is located in the northern portion of the western Colorado city, just east of the regional airport. The 9/10-mile course features fast straight-aways, elevation changes and challenging corners. The clockwise configuration will be utilized for the opening weekend for the SKUSA Mountain Region program, the same layout scheduled for the SKUSA SummerNationals set for July 15-17. The Grand Junction facility will then close that direction of the course following the SKUSA MR weekend until the July Pro Tour event.
The event and SKUSA Mountain Region series will host seven categories: S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto, S4 Master Stock Moto, S5 Junior Stock Moto, TaG Senior, TaG Master, TaG Junior and TaG Cadet. Local option classes, such as Shifter Open and TaG Open, will be offered pending participation numbers. SKUSA Mountain Region officials are encouraging those who wish to compete in a local option class to contact them directly. Free TaG Cadet Vortex MiniRok engine packages are still available for rent on a first come, first served basis from Superkarts! USA. Engines will be handed out beginning Thursday, June 22 at the track. SKUSA would also like to remind shifterkart competitors that Grand Junction Motor Speedway requires an air box that holds two (2) 29mm tubes (+/- 1mm) with filter optional. Any questions regarding the air box requirement are asked to contact the SKUSAMR office.
The early registration discount has passed, however racers can still send in their registration until Wednesday, June 22 or register at-track Friday morning prior to a test and tune day, run by the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. The facility will be open for a full day of practice, with all fees to be paid directly to the track, as well as pit spots, transponder rental, VP fuel and spec oil. Tech sheets, additional wrist bands, event schedules and general information will be located at the SKUSAMR registration desk. A SKUSA-style barbeque will take place following the last practice session Friday evening, with everyone invited to attend. The event hotels suggested are the Grand Vista Hotel and The Clarion near the airport.
