Here we are at the second round of the WSK Euro Series 2011 consisting in the sixth year for the karting series that WSK Promotion organizes and promotes. After the opening in Sarno, Italy, at the beginning of March, the European karting circus moves now to the Circuito International do Algarve, Portimao, in the south of Portugal. Specific features characterize the facility that combines tourist attraction of this region bordering the Atlantic coast and unusual cohabitation with a large motor racing circuit, which is located inside the same big Portuguese complex.
KARTING WORLD STOPS IN PORTIMAO
The 260 registered drivers are divided into the 3 classes KF1, KF2 and KF3 equipped with continuous clutch, and into the classes with six-speed gearbox. It is really a large world delegation the one reaching Portimao, with drivers of well 34 different countries from Asia, Americas and Europe.
HEATED RANKINGS SINCE THE SEASON DEBUT
After the debut round in Italy, it was unexpected results to bring the current leaders to the top of the rankings. In KF1, English Jordan Chamberlain (Intrepid-TM-Vega) leads the pack after his win at the Campanian round ahead of the great favourite Dutch Nyck De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla-Vega) and a promising driver from Czech Republic, Libor Toman (Birel-BMB-Vega). Now in the ranks of Birel Motorsport, Matteo Viganò from Bergamo, Italy, will join the list of the favourites in Portimao. In KZ1, Belgian Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) is at the top above his fellow citizen Jonathan Thonon (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop) and Italian Marco Ardigò. In KZ2, the leader is Dutch Ryan Van Burgt (Maddox-Parilla-Vega) above Sienese Mirko Torsellini (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop) and Swedish Joel Johansson (Energy-TM-Dunlop). Italian Stefano Cucco (Birel-Parilla-Vega), leads KF2 above Belgian Sami Luka (Energy-TM-Vega) and French Victor Sendin (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega). There are two leaders in KF3: English Callan Okeeffe and French Esteban Ocon (both on a FA-Vortex-Vega) tie on points over Dutch Max Verstappen (CRG-Parilla-Vega).
