SouthWest Roadrace Association Welcoming Laydown Driver Contingent to IKF Grand Nationals
Article by: swra.org

The SouthWest Roadrace Association (SWRA) is pleased to announce a significant increase in the number of competitors taking part in the laydown classes for the 2011 International Kart Federation Road Race Grand Nationals at Eagles Canyon Raceway on June 15-18, 2011. Racers from Texas, Kansas, Oregon, New Mexico and Oklahoma have already committed to race the event. Interest is quickly building among laydown drivers on the west coast and in the Midwest. At the rate that commitments are being received this will be the most highly attended national road race event in recent years.

A number of incentives are bringing entries to the 2011 event outside Decatur, Texas. SWRA is offering a free first race entry to any driver who travels over 500 miles one way from their home to race the event. They will also be working with eKartingNews.com, who will provide their Trackside Live coverage that includes live audio and trackside coverage for all four days of action. Event sponsor Moverati will be providing downloadable videos to all racers who participate. The video can easily be added to your Facebook page or sent via email or Twitter.

According to SWRA Treasurer and IKF Governor Hank Cantrell, the best laydown racers in the nation will not miss this event, “This is the most excitement and enthusiasm we have seen among laydown racers for an event in years. It is really nice to see the laydown guys fired up like this.”

Laydown racers are unique. Most build their own karts and the style of driving of laying nearly flat on their back is different from any other form of motorsports. They are happy to be the renegades of the sport. Tim Kyser of Flower Mound, Texas happily and proudly proclaims, “I am happy to be one of the crazy laydown guys. There is nothing that compares to racing a laydown kart. I challenge all of the laydown drivers across the country to come race against us at the 2011 Grand Nationals.”

Glenn Cherry indicates that he will have a few laydown rental karts available if sit-up karters want to try a truly different form of road racing. Of course, any potential takers will have to pass the appropriate check ride and satisfy other safety requirements. Glenn can be contacted on the SWRA Forum.

Laydown drivers - don’t miss the opportunity to compete in the 2011 IKF Road Race Grand Nationals. There may not be another opportunity like this for quite some time. Go to http://www.swra.org and visit the forum for more information.
