2010 Champions: US Rotax Max Challenge National Points Standings - Masters

In cooperation with the US Rotax Max Challenge, eKartingNews.com is proud to present the champions and top-10 of the seven Rotax categories that make up the National Points Standings. Over the next six weeks, we will examine one class per week to highlight those who were able to score highest in the points standings in 2010. The USRMC National Points Standings ranks drivers from 30 local and regional Rotax Max Challenge Series across the country using a weighted points system. The system uses only registered drivers to compute each participant’s points in the series they are competing, awarding bonus points when the number of participants reaches a minimum level. This system is not to be confused with the USRMC Grand Nationals, where the top drivers in the United States come together to crown the US Rotax Champions. The USRMC National Points system recognizes and awards all drivers who compete in the series at all levels. Many of these drivers are very talented and for various reasons will never have the opportunity to compete on the national scene, but remain the backbone of the US Rotax Max Challenge. For complete standings and an explanation of the points system go to http://www.usrmaxnrd.com

Masters
An impressive 160 drivers scored points toward the US Rotax Max Challenge National Points Standings in 2010. Californian Steven Dzurilla came away on top of the tally after placing fourth one year ago. Three other drivers returned to the top-10 once again, including David Gildersleeve, Russell Hamel, and Mike Wilhelm. Six different regions were represented with Northeast leading the way with four drivers, and one from LAKC, MRP, Northern California, Baker’s Creek and South Florida. The top driver at the Rotax Grand Nationals to reach the top-10 is Hamel, who placed fifth back in July.

2011 Goals:
Win 2011 NorCal Rotax DD2 Masters Championship, qualify for DD2 Masters Grand Finals, top-3 finish in Formula Car Challenge in Pro Formula Mazda

André S. Eriksen has 9 years of racing experience from Motocross in Europe in various classes. In 2010, André won the NorCal Rotax Masters Championship with 8 wins in 8 races and probably the biggest margin ever in the story of this Championship. In addition to the championship, he was awarded the 2010 Driver of the year award. Mid 2010, he started to run in the DD2 as well. Despite only making 5 races, he managed to finish 3rd in the NorCal Rotax DD2 Championship with 3 wins, 1 second and 1 third place. In addition to the local series, André particpated in 4 races in the Challenge of the Americas, scoring two podiums. Only bad luck prevented him from scoring a top-10 finish in the 2010 US Grand National in New Castle, Indiana. As a long-term entrepreneur and founder of Asetek Inc., André has held basically all positions in the company over the years and thus grown from a young entrepreneur to a professional Silicon Valley chief executive with substantial international experience. During the life cycle of a company, different skills are needed from the top management. André has proven his capabilities throughout this constant change, and from being an expert in cooling he has grown to be a team leader in Asetek. André's key skills include strong marketing, strategic business planning, fund raising, strategic R&D, determination, execution, deal closing and overall team motivation and management. With André behind the steering wheel, Asetek has grown from a tiny startup to a global industry leader within OEM liquid cooling supplying major computer manufacturers like HP and Dell.

Class Champion - Bakers Creek Kart Club
2011 Goals:
Have more fun, make more friends, and help grow the local karting scene

Richard started roadracing laydown enduro karts in the late 1980’s running WKA National and SRRS regional events, but the responsibilities of family put that on the back burner in the 1990’s. With the bug always there he figured 2010 was the year to get back on the track and was excited to find the Bakers Creek sprint track less than an hour from the house. Although he had never driven a sprint kart, one race visit was all it took to realize that it was time to start racing again. He purchased a used Arrow/Rotax and with great help from all the racers in the club and the BTK shop he was able to exceed his expectations with 4 wins and the class championship. He said sprint racing has been a blast and he wished he had jumped back in a few years earlier. He is grateful for all the friends he has made at the track and for his family cheering him on from the stands.
