Bolton, Otto Double Up at the Rock
Here's a look at some of the action from last weekend's Rock Island Grand Prix.

Otto owns Yamaha classes

Margay's Jacob Otto, who a month ago claimed a Duffy at the IKF 2 cycle Grand Nationals, won both Yamaha classes (Medium and Heavy) on the streets of Rock Island. Otto won the closest race of the day when he took the checkered for the Heavy event, aka Battle of the Margay Titans; he crossed the stripe just a mere .087 ahead of Scott Evans, while Todd Bolton came across the line just .252 behind the winner.

Otto then went to win the Medium race later in the afternoon, claiming victory over Mark Dismore, Jr. (Comet).

Bolton won a pair of races himself, as he fended off Evans to win the 2 Cycle Super Sportsman class. Todd also claimed a victory in the HPV event.

Evans, who will go down in history as tied (with Terry Traeder) for the most career wins at Quincy in the Park, took his sole win in the 2 Cycle Senior Sportsman class. Scott took his familiar #12 Margay to the victory, with the top four finishers taking the checkereds less than a second apart. Michael Dittmer, Bolton, and Eric Jones finished second through fourth, respectively.

Harding grabs 4 Cycle Medium win

Chris Harding beat Midwest stalwart Jason Birdsell in the hotly contest 4 Cycle Medium class. Harding and Birdsell staged a thrilling duel, culminating in a drag race to the finish line that Chris won by .051 second.

Eric Garland won the hefty 4 Cycle Heavy class, while Gary Lawson and Nathan O'Rourke rounded out the podium spots. In the Light division, Dustin Morris bested Robby Smith and Carlos Ramirez, while Tim Goettsch earned top honors in one of the few junior races of the weekend, 4 Cycle Junior 2.

Wiegand, Phillippe take big 125cc wins

The G.P./Fury/CRS outfit nabbed the top three spots in Formula IC qualifying, and polesitter Kyle Wiegand made good on his team's form by taking the class win (Wiegand would later win the demonstration Biland race as well). David Mayhew made the trek out from the West Coast and finished a fighting second aboard his Arrow/Pavesi. Fury owner Joe Janowski finished third, complementing his fourth placed finish in the King of the Streets event.

Nelson Phillippe (Fittipaldi) and Nick Bussell (MRP/Birel) staged a private debate over the 125cc Semi-Pro race, one that Phillippe would eventually win. Chris Jackson (Maranello) took top honors in the 80cc Shifter division, while winner John Kindkart, Tom Kutscher and Sam Walls took the top three spots in the G1 race. Jordon Musser earned the right to drive around Rock Island displaying a checkered flag by virtue of winning the Rotax Max class.
