GPO Karting Series Round Three Preview

The third round of the GPOs 2010 in Lyon can be rightly considered the peak of the Karting French Championship season for two main reasons. First of all because it is the third of five meetings in the calendar, and the one where the race to the titles begins to take on a clearer shape; secondly, because the Saint Laurent de Mure circuit is the most centrally located of the year, ideally placed between North and South. There, a very diverse mix of confirmations and revenges is likely to emerge, accompanied by high summer temperatures (at last). National X30 and X30 Gentleman drivers, instead, will race in their first French Cup in this prestigious setting.

Pierre Gasly (Sodi/Parilla), who has dominated KF3 so far, will have to keep an eye on the growing effectiveness of drivers such as Léo Roussel and Charles Leclerc, both on Sodi/Parilla, but also on the expected return by Anthoine Hubert (Tony Kart/Vortex), still motivated by his recent victory at the CIK-FIA's Academy Trophy. A second group gathers the most promising talents of the category, with Rémy Deguffroy and Simon Tirman (Tony Kart/Vortex), Nolan Matione (Intrepid/TM), Valentin Moineault (Merlin/Parilla) as well as Pierre-Louis Lobet (CRG/Maxter). The number of girls will be as high as 6, which is quite a record! Lucile Cypriano (FA Kart/Vortex), Ingrid Girard (Intrepid/Vortex), Hannah Pym (Intrepid/TM), Erine Ferrari (Tony Kart/Vortex), Cécile Martini (Sodi/Parilla) and Marie Denis (CRG/Maxter) will be there.

KF2 is harder fought than ever and there are at least six drivers fighting for the title. Clément Bluy (Tony Kart/Vortex) calls the tune preceding Vincent Fraïsse (Intrepid/TM), currently 6th in the CIK U18 World Championship. Victor Sendin (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Enzo Guibbert (FA Kart/Vortex) follow closely, while Belgian Denis Dupont (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Alex Baron (Sodi/Parilla) are not far. Pascal Belmaaziz, very unlucky during the first rounds, will be in Lyon with a new team and his DR/Parilla. His team mate will be a well-known driver, Julien Poncelet, double European ICA and FA Champion in 1998 and 1999.

Though KZ2 has been dominated so far by hard-to-beat Anthony Abbasse (Sodi/TM), his direct rivals are stamping their feet behind him and will do everything they can to stop his winning series. Motivation can be taken for granted when Yan Pesce (Energy/TM), Emilien Grosso (Intrepid/TM), Pierre Ragues (Sodi/TM), Yannick Savard (CRG/Maxter) come in the picture, and they are very determined to make the task harder for the outgoing vice Champion. Revenge will be in the air for Pierre-Etienne Chaumat (Intrepid/TM) and Mathias Gallepe (Sodi/Maxter).

Battle is also raging among constructors in their respective championships. For the time being, Sodi is the best placed in KF3 and KZ2, leading the combined classification of Champion of Champions, while Tony Kart is the leader in KF2.

At least 75 drivers will battle in X30 for their first French Cup, while numbers will be lower for X30 Gentleman, (drivers over 32 years). Yet, there will be almost a hundred competitors to animate the Lyon GPO in this affordable and easy-to-access category that has the wind in its sails in France. All equipped with the same Parilla engines, they are looking forward to battling in races that promise to be very spectacular.

All the ingredients are there to make the Lyon GPO at Saint Laurent de Mure a not-to-miss event for all motor sports fans.
