Over a rainy day in the morning turned then sunny in the afternoon, the shortlist of the 2010 karting champions pretending to the WSK Euro Series titles takes an early shape at the Spanish round on the circuit in Zuera, nearby Saragossa.
ARMAND CONVERS IS CLOSER TO THE SUPER KF TITLE. Armands Convers carried through a weekend full of victories since the Frenchman won the SuperPole, the Pre-final and Final. In the crucial race, Convers was only involved in blocking English Gary Catt’s (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) early attack that springing forward at the start took the lead in no time but was then soon caught up in the following lap. Dutch Nick De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla-Vega) he too chasing the title, worked hard to gain back second place he got before in the starting grid. The fifteen-year-old driver from Sneek after dropping back at the start, managed to recover close behind Convers who, however, kept always a constant lead. Beating Catt and Marco Ardigò from Brescia, Roman Flavio Campioneschi emerged victorious from the duel for third place the Tony Kart drivers were fighting. Ardigò is always second in the championship ranking below Convers that has 52-point lead. Third at 65 lengths is De Vries.
BAS LAMMERS BACK TO THE TOP IN KZ1. The winner in the Pre-final Belgian Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) and Dutch Bas Lammers (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) engaged in a ruthless battle for KZ1 lead. They were closely matched until Dreezen was forced to give in, due to the broken engine. The main rival for Lammers was then Belgian Jonathan Thonon (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop) who succeeded in moving up from the third row to second place. The challenge between them two counted towards the championship leadership: managing to hold the lead over Thonon, Lammers gained the final race and at the same time went back to the top of the provisional ranking. French Jeremy Iglesias (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) achieved a deserved third place and is now fourth in the ranking, below his countryman Anthony Abbasse (Sodi-TM-Dunlop). Once again, Paolo De Conto from Treviso (Energy-TM-Dunlop) established himself as KZ2 leader over a good Dutch Beitske Visser (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) and Spanish Fulgencio Garcia (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop). To his merit, De Conto has achieved a fourth place overall and is the outright leader in the championship with 101-point lead over Visser and 125 lengths over Czech Jan Midrla (Birel-TM-Dunlop).
D’AGOSTO IS AGAIN LEADER IN KF2. Once the rain stopped, Italian Ignazio D’Agosto (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), starting the Pre-final abreast the poleman Antonio Gionvinazzi (Top Kart-Parilla-Vega) was cautious about performing in such a track. That way, Danish Michelle Gatting (CRG-Maxter-Vega) won the race and she showed herself to be pugnacious in the Final too. In the conclusive race however, it was D’Agosto to take the lead after Polish Karol Basz (RK-BMB-Vega) had sprinted at first. Gatting moved up from the early race’s eighth place to third, behind Spanish Gerard Barrabeig (Birel-BMB-Vega). The latter carried out a more difficult recovery seeing that he had started 12th. In the ranking, D’Agosto is back to the top, 37 points up over Danish Nicolaj Moller Madsen (Energy-TM-Vega) and 59 lengths over Gatting.
VERSTAPPEN WINS UNCHALLENGED IN KF3. In the Final, Danish Nicolas Beer (FA Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) and English Alexander Albon (Intrepid-TM-Albon) early overtook Pre-final’s winner Dutch Max Verstappen (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop). Soon in the first laps, there was a pack of nine drivers fighting for the leadership. In the final phase, Verstappen was successful at snatching the victory from Albon and emerged victorious from the contest while Danish Christian Sorensen (Birel-BMB-Dunlop) finished third. That way, Verstappen consolidates his leadership at 87-point lead over Albon and 101 over Dutch Peter Hoevenaars (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop). |
