Devlin DeFrancesco was at New Castle Motorsports Park a week ago to contest the opening round of the WSK North American Series by CKI. The ten-year-old produced a strong start to his fourth schedule of the season as he started both main events from the front row and claimed third in overall points for the weekend.

After running well through practice and Saturday morning warm-up, race day one began from the outside of row three for the DeFrancesco Racing driver. He then slotted fifth at the beginning of the prefinal, and ran there to half distance when he set the fastest lap of the race and began a move toward the front of the line. On lap seven he took fourth, and on eight he jumped to second, holding the spot to earn a front row start for the first main event. From there he wiggled his way into fourth from the outside, and on lap two moved into third.

DeFrancesco bettered his lap time every tour in working to half, before a fight for the top three ensued on the backside of twelve laps. The position changed hands five times, and in the end a decisive move led to a cross-country excursion on the exit and DeFrancesco had to settle for fourth for the day. It’s the same spot he stood after Sunday morning qualifying, a day which would perfectly repeat his Saturday results.

Once again working to the front row in the prefinal, this day DeFrancesco completed the work in short order as he was second by the end of lap one and ran the distance holding station. He did the same on his way to half distance in the main, before falling into a fight for the second straight day. DeFrancesco set his best lap of the race on the final tour and in finishing fourth earned third-place points for the weekend and stood on the podium to close the event.

Devlin DeFrancesco and his DFR / Supertune USA team will now begin preparations for the initial race of the Rotax Pan American Challenge at the end of the month. For more information and a photo gallery from New Castle, please visit the team on Facebook.
