| Rotax Euro Challenge - Round 1 Preview |
| |
The 2010 Rotax Euro Challenge gets underway this weekend at Salbris, France with yet another boost in race entries once again this year, in what will be RGMMC Establishment’s 7th season as the official organisers of the Rotax event.
The Sologne Karting circuit is one of the favourite venues for the drivers on the ‘Euro’ tour, having played host to the competitive Rotax four-round series on numerous occasions already in the past. Following on the success of the recent Rotax Winter Cup in Spain last February where the number of competitors was almost doubled compared to 2009, the opening round of the Euro Challenge kicks off with 180 drivers coming from 5 continents worldwide including some new nations being represented for the first time ever in the championship.
In what may be considered a difficult economic climate for many facets of the Motorsport arena, the Euro Challenge is one event that continues to promote a positive turnaround, especially for the Karting fraternity. With four classes being contested – Junior Max, Senior Max, Max Masters and Rotax DD2, a driver line-up that includes current and former World and European champions, together with many national title holders in their respective classes, is expected to guarantee some very competitive racing to get the series started.
In addition to the 2010 European Rotax titles up for grabs in each category and great prizes including entry for the newly introduced Rotax International Open in October, the Euro Challenge is also giving 11 drivers the chance to receive an invitation to the biggest Rotax Grand Finals to-date to be held at the La Conca circuit in Italy next November. The international interest in the championship has enabled it to become one of the most highly regarded Rotax series’, proven time and time again when the Euro qualifiers have all but filled the podiums at the annual Max Challenge finale.
The track action begins today [Friday] with official timed practice to determine grid positions for the 22 qualifying heats on Saturday’s jam-packed race program, then .
