Alonso Kart and DeFrancesco Racing pilot, Cole Glasson, made his second Florida Winter Tour visit this past weekend in West Palm Beach. Cole once again had his work cut out to get up to speed on the track as he would be facing 47 Mini Max drivers from 8 different countries, many of whom had more track time from the previous FWT weekend. This weekend however, Cole not only had his DFR teammates (Kirkwood, DeFrancesco, O’ Ward, and Chaponick) and crew to get information from, he also had his long time tuner, DJ Ortiz, from Kart Racing Solutions. The team quickly made progress and after practice on Friday sat in 11th position of the 47 kart field.

Saturday’s qualifying put him in P10 and an automatic transfer to the finals. In the prefinal, Cole made some great moves early and quickly worked his way through the field running much of the race in P4 before a late pass had him fall to 6th to begin the final. After a promising prefinal moving him up 4 spots and continually getting quicker, he felt good about the finals, but that was quickly ended when the start carried him to P5 going into turn 7 where an on track incident found Cole pushed off the track and into P31. Cole was able to get the kart back on the track and fight his way back up into the top 15 before another incident involving multi cars found him with a stuck throttle cable sending him off into the dirt on turn 2. He quickly corrected the problem but only for a short time when it stuck again sending him off in turn 5 and ending his race in P29.

Sunday brought some great times again as Cole had the 7th fastest time of the 47 kart field after the warm up session and qualified P11, only 5/100th’s from being into the top 5. The prefinal had some great racing as Cole and two other DFR teammates (O’Ward and DeFrancesco) had a train going for the entire race finishing P11, P12, and P13 in the field setting up for a great final to be poised for a top ten finish for the 2nd time during the weekend. Cole began in P12 for the final in a field that was separated by 8/10th’s. Cole had a strong start moving quickly to P9 before the race was red flagged due to an incident in Turn 2 and was restarted. During the restart, neither Cole nor two of his DFR teammates had luck on their side as all three were involved in a turn 1 incident ending two of their days (O’Ward and Kirkwood) while severely bending Cole’s tie rod causing for an early track exit into P29 again---DFR teammate DeFrancesco finished 11th. Cole and the rest of the DFR Mini Max drivers are poised to finish in the top 10 during March’s last FWT round in Ocala.

Cole would like to thank DeFrancesco Racing who supported him this weekend along with his teammates Dore Chaponick, Kyle Kirkwood, Patricio O’Ward and Devlin Defrancesco along with their tuners. In addition, special thanks to Ben and Tony Cruttenden of Supertune USA and Bobby Wilson, Team Manager and Andy DeFrancesco, Team Owner. Special thanks to his long time tuner, DJ Ortiz, who without him, the weekend would not have been the same.

Cole is sponsored in 2010 by DeFrancesco Racing, Supertune USA, Frozen Fire Films, Glasson Racing, Tyler Web Design, and Kart Racing Solutions.
