WSK International Series 2009 Awards Ceremony

The WSK karting champions of 2009 were feted at the Sporting Club Monza, during an evening filled up with eminent motorsport figures. French Arnaud Kozkinski (CRG-Maxter Super KF), Dutch Bas Lammers (Intrepid-TM KZ2), English Ben Cooper (Tony Kart-Vortex KF2) and Dutch Nick De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla KF3) were the prizewinners entering a roll of honour that in the forthcoming year 2010 will be at chapter five.

By opening the evening, the President of WSK Promotion Luca De Donno has illustrated the most important goals the just ended season has achieved. First, 401 drivers coming from 40 Countries over three Continents and entered by 111 different teams competed in the 7 championship rounds. 25 Manufacturers working in the karting sport officially attended the WSK International Series. Well 33 chassis brands and 11 engine Manufacturers were displayed during the races. “This is not only the evening for the final crowning celebrations but also for achievements” – the President De Donno commenced – “Gratified from the positive manufacturers feedback, along with the WSK Promotion I wish to reconfirm the commitment that is going to bring us to organize 12 rounds over three Continents in 2010.

2009 final figures reward the WSK organization also from the very central communication side, giving the WSK International Series a worldwide fame. WSK Press Office came into contact with 35 newspapers that applied for the accreditation of 48 sports correspondents. There were 5 television stations following the series, including Rai Due, Rai Più satellite channel and French station France 3. The latter two alone broadcasted on the subject for well 4 hours overall.

Many sporting figures have attended the WSK Grand Gala, starting with the CSAI President Angelo Sticchi Damiani, the AciSport Executive Director Marco Rogano, the CSAI General Secretary Marco Ferrari, the Subcommission President Vittorio Loriga and finally the President of the Italian Karting Federation Giuseppe Nolé. The presence of such authorities shows the great interest the CSAI has in young karting drivers.

The International Cup by CSAI that the President Sticchi Damiani has presented to the top qualified Italian drivers in the relative classes is only the first step of a plan that, as the same President has announced, will involve the WSK events also in 2010. “CSAI is establishing positive links to build a chain supporting the more promising drivers to turn professional” – Eng. Sticchi Damiani told – “A leading Italian car company showed already willing. Along with its support, we aim to both spot and show off our best talent and succeed in paving them the way for F.1”

Giancarlo Minardi’s attendance at the event as Federal Selector stressed again the importance of the above mentioned venture where the former F.1 manufacturer will show once again to match up to his reputation as talent scout. “Only one thing remained to be decided and it was the international championship representing the point of reference to select the drivers for the Youth Project” – the CSAI President explained – “We therefore chose the WSK as a good breeding ground for watching the drivers into action and evaluate them”.

CSAI Italian prize winners for 2009 are Matteo Viganò from Bergamo (Birel-Parilla KF2), Raffaele Marciello from Caserta (Tony Kart-Vortex KF3), Marco Ardigò of Brescia (Tony Kart-Vortex KZ2) and Sauro Cesetti from Ascoli Piceno (Birel-Parilla Super KF). The four drivers will follow a Federal Course at the racetrack in Vallelunga, with selection for 2010 Super course.
