 | Bas Lammers won in Zuera to secure the KZ2 title at the WSK International Series

The longest day in 2009 is ended. In Zuera, in province of Aragon, Spain, the sixth round of the WSK International Series took place on the circuit near the historic town of Saragossa. Only for the occasion, the four international karting classes took to the field in the same weekend and towards the end of the season, disclosed the first champions.
It was with a powerful sprint that Dutch Bas Lammers (Intrepid-TM-Vega) reversed his fate in the Championship, after the previous round in Salbris (F) where he met with Italian Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) overtaking him. They both, being left the only ones contending for the title, arrived on the conclusive stage with equal opportunities. Lammers, starting few lines behind Ardigò, sprang forward heatedly and succeeded in winning the Prefinal. In the Final instead, it was more difficult for the Dutch driver to achieve a victory concluding a close challenge against his teammate French Jeremy Iglesias and Belgian Rick Dreezen (CRG-Maxter-Vega). The latter, after leading for long, has been forced to give up first to Iglesias’ push, and then to Lammers, catching up with him on the last lap. The Dutch driver overtook also Iglesias at the finishing line, winning that way both the race and title at once. Ardigò instead, could not join in the battle, owing to a broken engine at the beginning of the race.
Brandon Maisano, a promising sixteen driver coming from French motor sport, made his a winning debut in as demanding class as the Super KF is. The driver from Vallauris, in Provence, performed with a Maxter engine and on a chassis LH, devised by the champion Louis Hamilton and assembled by Dino Chiesa’s company. It is interesting to note that such an achievement, being the first international success, both for Maisano and LH brand, was obtained the very day Hamilton was winning the Singapore GP. He therefore topped off a weekend getting a double source of a double satisfaction. Maisano achieved victory, after a long challenge against English Gary Catt (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) during which they have been alternately in the lead all the time. Behind them two, French Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG-Maxter-Bridgestone) catching up well, is among the top few drivers who gained important points for the ranking. Anyway, Italian Sauro Cesetti (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone), fourth place in the Final, still leads the Championship, followed respectively by Kozlinski and Maisano. So, the last act for the crowning win will be performed on the circuit in Lonato (BS), where 2009 WSK closing round will take place 1 st weekend in November.
As moderate as only Japanese people can be, a fifteen driver from Tokyo, Yu Kanamaru (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) won his first international victory in Zuera, setting the pace in a very heated Final. Started from the fourth line, Kanamaru pushed his way through top drivers such as English Chris Lock (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and Danish Nicolaj Moller Madsen (Energy-TM-Bridgestone) who finished behind him. English Ben Cooper (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone), the favourite of the chase for the title, was very skilful at mastering the race situation, also thanks to a quite consistent lead he already got over both Italian Matteo Viganò (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone) and Swedish Joel Johansson (Energy-TM-Bridgestone). Therefore, a fourth place both in Prefinal and Final, was sufficient for Cooper to win the title one round beforehand.
One year apart, Dutch Nick De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop) repeated himself in KF3 and gained the WSK title for the second time. He managed to achieve such a goal dominating both Prefinal and Final, whereas his closest rival Russian Daniil Kvyat (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) stayed back and far from the leading pack. The only driver chasing De Vries was Spanish Carlos Sainz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) who succeeded in mounting the podium, below British Alexandre Albon (Tony Kart-TM-Dunlop), after a second place in the Prefinal. In spite of excellent results, the Madrilenian cannot compete any more for the title: calculations make De Vries successful already before the closing round in Lonato.
