The payoff – as for the mathematics counts, to be exact – is the subject for the upcoming WSK meeting. Next weekend, from September 24th to 27th, the Spanish circuit in Zuera will host a round ever so crucial in this 2009 late season. In a very open-ended championship situation, KZ2 (at the concluding round) will find for sure its champion in Spain. In all other classes, on the contrary, it is not so certain it will emerge in advance a winner from the drivers shortlisted for win.
On Aragon soil
Zuera is a Spanish townlet of 5.640 inhabitants and a very important centre of Aragon independent community. It is in province of Saragossa, a capital of almost 700.000 inhabitants, and the fourth Spanish town for economic growth. Two years ago, it was just a WSK round to open the Circuito Internacional de Zuera, in 2007 season. The racetrack being fast and technical and extending over an area of 240.000 sq.m. overall, is 1700 metres long, with a 180-metre main straight.
Conclusive challenge in KZ2
Marco Ardig̣ (Tony Kart-Vortex) is the new ranking leader after the race in Salbris (F), with a consistent lead over Dutch Bas Lammers (Intrepid-TM). WSK regulations provides for a discard of an entire round, including both Pre-final and Final score. For this reason, the two drivers will start in Zuera levelling with each other, seeing that Ardig̣’s worst score consists of 21 points gained in Sarno (I), whereas Lammers counts on the 20 points achieved in Genk (B). Lammers will have to gallop way, with the achievable mission of closing the gap on Ardig̣. Jonathan Thonon, in the third position with a 62-point gap, will have a more difficult task. The Belgian driver will have to shoot for a double win that will be useful only in case of adverse race for his rivals. His sole advantage is represented by the fact that he will discard nothing, as he already got no score for one round.
Super KF is getting ready for sprinting to the title
The first two races shot to the top Italian Sauro Cesetti (Birel-Parilla), with a 20-point lead over his team-mate Czech Libor Toman and French Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG-Maxter). They will compete for a deciding score in Zuera, before the final sprint in Lonato, but anybody is unlikely to mathematical succeed in winning the title already on Aragon soil: even more so because there are 96 points still to be awarded in addition to a mandatory discard of a round. Such being the case, it will be Toman along with French Armand Convers (Kosmic-Vortex) and Finnish Aaro Vainio (Maranello-Maxter) to take advantage of the situation. Toman and Convers (fifth in the ranking) already count a round with no score, whereas Vainio (a good fourth place) has only 2 points to discard. Ultimately, the chances of winning the Super KF are the same for all the pack that is ready therefore, to live a hotly contested weekend, at the Spanish round.
The magnificent 7 in KF2
There are two rounds to go before the end and KF2 has a maximum of 130 points still to be awarded. The leader Ben Cooper (Tony Kart-Vortex) has increased the lead over his first pursuer Matteo Vigaṇ (Birel-Parilla). In a ranking where only the first seven drivers can pretend to the title, MGM driver will have to recover 84 points.
Eight claimants in KF3
Eight drivers are competing for KF3 title, in a ranking where Nick De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla) is at the top. The Dutch guy is followed closely by Russian Daniil Kvyat, driving from Zuera with Intrepid Junior Team, and Carlos Sainz (Tony Kart-Vortex) with respectively 21 and 48 points lead over them. Another change in Spain concerns Raffaele Marciello from Caserta, competing on a Tony Kart-Vortex, from Morsicani Racing. |
