| EKN Trackside: WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series - New Castle Preview |
| |
The fourth round of the 2009 World Karting Association’s George Kugler/Bridgestone Manufacturer’s Cup Series will invade the New Castle Motorsports Park this weekend for the Show Hauler Truck Nationals. The popular Indiana facility is hosting its third series in event, much to the liking of the many competitors that make up the program. The 1-mile circuit provides a great racing track with plenty of passing opportunities in addition to the many amenities the Dismore family has surrounded the course.
The championship battles are beginning to sort out the pretenders and contenders, along with those chasing the coveted Triple Crown Award honor. Ryan Stewart leads that charge in the Senior categories as he controls the point standings in HPV Lite and Yamaha SuperCan Lite while sitting second in the Yamaha SuperCan Heavy category behind Jason Foley. Stewart also trails Tony Jump in the Yamaha Pipe division. Wyatt Gooden (HPV Heavy), John Dixon (TaG Masters) and Michael Burrell (Yamaha Masters) hold strong atop their respective classes.
The TaG standings sees Canadian Marco DiLeo - who just recently earned a spot on his homeland’s team for the Rotax Grand Finals in Egypt - with control as eKartingNews.com TaG Driver Rankings #1 driver Chris Wehrheim is giving chase. They will be joined by a special guests as NASCAR’s Jamie McMurray is in New Castle to mix it up with karting’s best on his off-weekend.

The Junior racing has been phenomenal this season an it can only get better with four championships on the line. Sam Beasley currently holds the top spot in two categories - HPV Jr. Lite and Yamaha Jr. Lite - however he is currently being chased by the two other point leaders - Nick Neri and Trent Hindman. Neri is second in the HPV Jr. Lite class but leads the standings in the Heavy group over Robert Bujdoso. Hindman has a similar led in the Yamaha Jr. Heavy class over Dakota Pesek, while trailing Beasley in the Lite division. They will be joined by a number of guests in New Castle with California’s Taylor Miinch and Raquel Martinez making the long journey out to battle the best in the East.
Like the Juniors, the Cadets are just as exciting to watch. Garrett Johnston currently holds the lead in two divisions - Yamaha Sportsman Lite and HPV Sportsman - entering New Castle. Kyle Kalish has been the driver to beat in the Cadet Jr. Sportsman while Kyle Tilley is the target in the new Yamaha Sportsman Heavy category.
Following rounds of practice on Friday, racing gets underway with the local option Stock Moto and Yamaha Rookie divisions joining in on the WKA fun and excitement. Saturday will see 10 classes do battle with 8 completing the weekend on Sunday. For updates throughout the weekend, visit the Official Discussion Thread in the EKN Forums. |
