Australia’s fastest kart racers will return to one of the world’s most popular karting circuits, the Raleigh International Raceway, in Northern New South Wales for round three of the Australian CIK Championship this weekend.

Located 20 minutes south of Coffs Harbour in New South Wales, the Raleigh International Raceway has been the scene of many National and International events over the years and is a favourite of drivers from all across the world.

Some of the world’s drivers to have competed at the Raleigh circuit in CIK-specification karts include the likes of Formula One driver Jarno Trulli, IndyCar Series driver Ryan Briscoe and World Karting Champions Alessandro Manetti and James Courtney.

Entering the third round of the Championship South Australian Tyson Pearce holds a slender lead at the top of the points standings over the Newcastle pair of Hayden McBride and Simon Roberts.

In 2000, Pearce finished runner-up to V8 Supercar race winner Michael Caruso in a round of the Ford KartStars Series at the venue. Finishing in third place at that event was 2008 V8 Championship runner-up, Mark Winterbottom.

Like many of the drivers competing this weekend Pearce is excited about the return of top line racing to the picturesque and challenging Raleigh circuit.

“Raleigh is one of those circuits that every driver loves going to, it has a bit of everything and is probably the most exciting track in the country,” said Pearce.

“I’ve raced there a number of times throughout my career, with my best result coming in 2000 when I finished second behind Caruso.

“Hopefully, this weekend I can continue my good speed from the last round and maintain my points lead with a good result.

“I’m really enjoying the CIK Championship being back on track this year, the style of racing allows everyone to get a lot of racing at the top level in Australia but at an affordable price.”

The Australian CIK Championship is being run alongside the Rotax Pro Tour where over 100 drivers are expected to assemble for the five 125cc categories that cater for a variety of ages and weight divisions.

Some of the drivers expected to figure prominently in the Rotax Pro Tour include David Sera, who has won both of the opening two events in Rotax Light, Daniel Rochford, Paul Rodgers, William Yarwood and the Pringle brothers – Jason and Rick – in Rotax Heavy along with Josh DeMaio, Chris Hays and Luke Rochford in the Formula JMA category.
