The fifth round of the WSK International Series started with great innovations concerning the season 2010. On French soil, namely in Salbris, a townlet hosting an intense race weekend on its 1500 metre circuit, it has been entered the closing phase for the long 2009 WSK tour. While the free practices were running on the track, WSK plans for the next season were announced at a meeting between WSK and the Factories attending the Series. In the presence of the Manufacturers Birel, Comer, CRG, DR, Energy, FA Kart, Intrepid, Kosmic, Lenzo Kart, LH, Maranello, Maxter, Parilla, PCR, RK, TM, Tony Kart, Top Kart, Vortex and Zanardi, the WSK Promotion has illustrated the three championships planned for 2010. Further details will be discussed at the following meetings to timetable also with the Teams.
The more attractive innovation is represented by the WSK World Series, a Championship comprising three rounds, respectively in Europe, Asia and America: on this three continental bases, the classes Super KF, KZ2, KF2 and KF3 will compete at once, in a span of time from July to October. The first round has already been fixed on the brand new circuit in Portimao, Portugal. The two next locations are nearing finalization.
The announcement of the WSK World Series contains further important news: on the same complex in Portimao, Algarve, the Championship’s debut will take place in conjunction with the sixth round of the 2010 World Touring Car Championship. In the Portuguese facility, a brand new karting circuit is nearing completion and it will be totally detached from the racetrack and the facilities newly opened. Both, Marcello Lotti, Chairman of the promoter KSO organizing the World Touring Car Championship, and Luca De Donno, President of the WSK Promotion, immediately agreed with the idea of associating two successful events like WTCC and WSK. At the Portuguese weekend, WSK Finals, scheduled on Saturday, will alternate with WTCC races, scheduled on Sunday as usual.
Taking the name of WSK Euro Series from the next year, the “traditional” continental series will open the season. Five rounds are scheduled from March to June and will take place on the best Italian and European circuits, like the years before. In that case, as well, the eligible classes attending every round will be Super KF, KZ2, KF2 and KF3.
The opportunity to take up a career in the international karting, but with a more restrained involvement, is given by the WSK Light Series, a five round series taking place from the end of August until the beginning of October 2010. In addition to the classes KZ2, KF2 and KF3 (adhering to international regulations), there will be the 60 Mini, running a National event with foreign attendance. Since this last series will represent a promotion series for young talented drivers, class Super KF and the holders of an A International license are not allowed to compete.
