At the third round, the Finals of the WSK International Series took place on a dry track. As a matter of fact, the sun beamed down on the circuit “7 Laghi” in Castelletto di Branduzzo, at the end of a weekend characterized by uncertain weather conditions. In such conditions, even drivers’ racing performances have changed altering further the rankings.
Restrained in the heats and explosive in the Final: Czech Libor Toman (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone) waited for the start in the Final to show his mettle in Super KF. The two fifth places achieved in the qualifying heats were sufficient to the driver from Klatovy (Bohemia) to attain a good starting position in the conclusive race. From the third row, Toman tried at first to catch up with Finnish Aaro Vainio (Maranello-Maxter-Bridgestone) who had managed to take the lead at the start. Few laps later, the awaited overtaking enabled Toman to achieve an unassailable leadership up to the finish line. Vainio was as good to avoid be overtaking by the pack in close challenge on his back and succeeding in staying on the wake of Toman. The duel for the third place was much more heated and the winner at last was leader’s teammate Sauro Cesetti. The driver from Ascoli, already leading the provisional ranking, consolidates his supremacy in the championship thanks to this position on the podium. Below Cesetti, an unlucky Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG-Maxter-Bridgestone) stays second, failing to improve his score due to some troubles during the races. However, Toman, levelling with the French driver and sharing the same position, can aim at scoring well in the Championship, him too.
In KF2 as well, a series of regular positions brought to a clear win. In that case, the protagonist was fifteen Swedish Mans Grenhagen (Energy-TM-Bridgestone) who managed to take the lead since the first laps, both in Prefinal and Final. Performing on a kart properly driven in the conclusive phase, Grenhagen convincingly answered previous supremacy by British Chris Lock (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) who had won well four heats. In the Final, while Lock remained among other pursuers, Neapolitan Aniello Smarrazzo (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) pushed through the others and engaged a long duel for the second place against the excellent driver of the same country, Felice Tiene (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone). However, the latter touched Smarrazzo few bends from the end, losing that way the place on the podium, gained then by French Brandon Maisano (Intrepid-TM-Bridgestone). In the ranking, Matteo Viganò from Bergamo (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone) is always the leader, in spite of his going out track along with Polish Karol Basz (RK-Parilla-Bridgestone) in the Prefinal. Nevertheless, he is still the provisional leader above English Ben Cooper (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and Grenhagen.
He had imposed himself at the opening of the season, then a miss in the second round and today’s win at last: Dutch Nick De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop) being at his best in the Final, overtook other opponents like Russian Daniil Kvyat and Spanish Carlos Sainz , both on a Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop. The conclusive overtake was just at Sainz’s expense, when they two had already left the strongest drivers behind. Spanish driver, being in crisis with the tyres in the final, was anyway clever at being a match for British Jordan King (Maranello-Maxter-Dunlop) by doing an interesting battle with him, concluded then in the same order. Kvyat, fourth past the post, still leads the championship, pursued closely by de Vries and Sainz.
